Reviews
We ordered the beet salad, octopus, ceviche, salmon puffs with caviar, mussels, and potatoes. The salmon puffs, ceviche, and potatoes were all very good and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the octopus and mussels really missed the mark. The octopus was extremely fishy and very chewy, and the mussels were also overly fishy, served lukewarm, and came with a sauce that was surprisingly bland and lacking depth. This was disappointing, especially coming from a restaurant that positions itself at this price point.
The cocktails were well made, and the lemon mousse dessert was a highlight. The interior of MDRD is absolutely stunning and is honestly one of the biggest selling points — the atmosphere is beautiful and upscale. That said, for a $200 dinner, we were pretty underwhelmed by both the food quality and the overall service experience.
One additional issue was that my water glass had a strange odor, to the point where I couldn’t drink from it. While everyone we interacted with was kind and professional, we simply didn’t see our servers often enough to feel properly taken care of. With better service and more consistent food execution, this place could be great — but for the price, it fell short for us.
EDIT: We reached out to the MDRD team after their response to the review and never heard back.
3 stars on the atmosphere. I learned about being able to pay even more money than what food and drinks cost to get the “best” views of the city. We were there for our anniversary and were seated right around the corner from the hostess stand. ALL the traffic from the restaurant passed our table and some were so loud we had to stop our conversation to wait for the loud drunk people to get on the elevator and leave. If you read this and want to see the city without pillars in your way, pay the extra for a better table
For the Main course, we had Chuletas De Codero(Lamb Chops) and Lomo De Wagyu.
Wagyu was decent Lamb Chops were really bland.
For the dessert, we had El Limon and Arbol De Frambuesa, and both were pretty good. Especially, the presentation.
Drinks were absolutely fire.
Overall, it was a let down for the price we paid and expectations we had.
The service truly made the experience though. Brandon, our server, was absolutely fantastic. He took the time to get to know what we liked, helped us pick the perfect drink from the bar, and nailed every recommendation. We trusted the process and were rewarded, the octopus (Pulpo-spanish menu with English description) was outstanding, easily one of the best dishes we had all night.
The bar program deserves a shout-out too. They customized our drinks, and the Godfather (modified) was next-level. Thoughtful, balanced, and clearly crafted by people who know what they’re doing.
Amazing service, great food, and a memorable experience all around. MDRD absolutely lives up to the hype. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion. I may also use it to entertain my clients as it’s very well done. We’ll definitely be back!
The ambience is nice and the food is great, but not unforgettable. What surprised me was the size of the portions. They were huge. Especially the octopus. When I hear people say MDRD deserves a Michelin star, I assumed the portions would be more delicate.
One thing: a helicopter landed on the JW Marriott roof directly across the way and kept its lights on for a good 15 minutes. The restaurant should have some kind of black out curtain as the light shined in and was a bit distracting for those in its path.
Overall, it was a good place to try out.
I’ll definitely be back! We did not order food so maybe next time we will try to food !
Tapas style dishes were extremely flavorful. Perhaps not fully authentic but not in a bad way – their twist on Spanish food is quite a good take. Drinks were fantastic as well.
Definitely will go back – albeit likely for a special occasion.
All of these details made our first visit an outstanding memory, especially for a milestone birthday of a deserving family member! Our service was wonderful and pleasant and easy going. We appreciated being treated to a high-end experience with a comfortable approach.
(We were sure to wear the appropriate business/casual specified on our reservation confirmation but did notice on our way out that other patrons wore more casual attire. I applaud the openness but always like to know how to feel most suitable. Overall, we were definitely glad to not be surprised when we arrived and felt our occasion warranted a dressier vibe.)
