That all washed down some pretty tasty sausage rolls which had a great flavor to them.
Get in here. Sláinte
Unlike the traditional lettuce-and-tomato formula, their sandwich features grilled eggplant, zucchini, red onion, roasted red peppers, and melted Boursin on grilled ciabatta — bold, flavorful, and unforgettable. Even the sweet potato fries tasted freshly cut and perfectly prepared.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with softly glowing lights and Irish sayings adorning the walls. Despite being seated near the entrance on a chilly evening, I was completely comfortable.
Service was outstanding — attentive without being intrusive. I also enjoyed the Irish Coffee “Quiet Man” and finished with the Guinness Irish Chocolate Mousse, which started subtle and grew richer with every spoonful.
This first visit set the bar high. I’ll absolutely be back.
I ordered an Irish coffee and let me tell you it was the best I’ve had in ages so do not miss the chance to try it. You’ll be asked if you want cream, say “yes” because I can’t imagine having it any other way. They have perfected the drink, with 2.5″ of real, fresh, cold and thick cream. They get the temperature differential so perfect that by the time the piping hot whiskey infused coffee passes through the cream it nips the tongue with a kiss. It’s better than the Irish coffee at the Buena Vista in San Francisco or anywhere else I’ve been for that matter.
The bar was full so we sat at a high top nearby. The exterior and interior have been constructed with such meticulous attention to the detail. It has to the unmistakable look of a genuine Irish pub. It’s easy to forget you’re in St Charles and not Dublin. McKenna was our waitress and I remember her name (despite being inept at doing so) because she was exceedingly warm, charming, fast to greet and serve us. I would like to thank the owners for creating and delivering on every level. It’s a place that embodies and holds a precious and elusive quality, the spirit of the Irish pub. Which also happens to be the spirit of the people of Ireland.
Food: For appetizer, it was probably the best ‘stuffed mushroom’ I’ve ever had (in pic). We also tried the potato and leak soup. Kids burger was tasty and surprisingly, quite big in size (in pic). The main course ‘fish and chips’ (in pic) was on point! Very tasty. Crust was awesome! But I feel, the quantity/size of fish was small for the price of a main course!
We tried 3 different types of beers – they even topped off one of our beers with Guiness (that was my first), but the final taste was ‘good’ interesting. Overall, the service was very good. Will definitely do it again!
We started with cocktails and the bacon wrapped dates, the roasted beet salad, and then enjoyed the fish and chips entrees. The food is worth every penny.
Settled in the heart of downtown Saint Charles, this place is a beacon of light, friendship, and joy for all who step through its doors.
The atmosphere is fantastic, and the decor all hearkens back to home and hearth for any and all who call the good Emerald Isle home. All of the wall decorations, even the ones in the bathrooms ( at least the men’s room), will sail ones heart away to that blessed place.
Now, as for the food, it’s a fair treat and make no mistake. Everything is made in-house and served up fresh and delicious. Whether it’s the Shepherds Pie, Cheese Curds, or the to die for Chocolate Mousse, there’s something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds, make no mistake.
And as for the brews, while I’ve yet to sample anything other than a good glass of Guinness and a cider, every time I’ve stopped round, I see drinks of all kinds flowing from bottle and pump handle.
So whether you’re in the mood for a pint or two, a quick bite or a long spell amongst pleasant company, make a point to visit McNally’s. You’ll feel right at home.
