Brunch at Black Rabbit inside McMenamins Edgefield was such a lovely experience with my girlfriends.
I ordered the banana French toast with eggs and sausage links. My only small complaint is that they don’t offer a non-pork sausage option I prefer turkey or chicken but they do have a vegetarian option available. Everything was warm, comforting, and satisfying.
The cozy atmosphere was one of my favorite parts: great lighting, clean space, and we could actually hear each other without shouting. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, which made it even better.
After brunch, we walked around Edgefield and enjoyed the gardens and scenery it turned a simple meal into a full, relaxing outing. Definitely a great spot for a cozy brunch.

I am blown away! This is the best meal of my life. We got the fish spread, both salads, wild boar (double yum, no knife required), and the ham. Service was exemplary. Holiday drinks were perfect. Ambiance is out of this world. This restaurant is homey not fancy at the same time. Staff were exceedingly nice and portions were generous.

First of all, we had an 11am reservation. Our orders for drinks weren’t taken until 11:25 and our food order was taken at 11:35. Our food came out cold an hour later. We were all so hungry that we didn’t want to complain and have to wait for replacements. We only had 3 satisfied family members at the table out of our party of 12 people eating. Speaking for myself, I got eggs Benedict with quite literally a drizzle of hollandaise. I asked for an extra side of it and it was cold, like straight out of the fridge. My husbands food was cold, everyone’s potato’s were cold. It was truly an extremely disappointing experience. This exact thing happened a year ago when we brought our family and we just shouldn’t have come back. A very expensive bill for a very disappointing meal.

We were excited for the poppyseed muffin; $5 and straight from the bakery?! It must be scrumptious! It was sooo disappointing; it was small, sticky, a little bit stale, and not even warm. Good lemon flavor, but that’s it.

I got the pancakes, and I was expecting actual blueberries, but only got a drizzle of lemon and blueberry sauce, which wasn’t enough for two whole pancakes. My brother and dad liked their’s alright, but agreed it wasn’t stellar. I liked the potatoes. I guess this place is just convenient if you’re staying at the hotel.

We had a slow waiter, although welcoming and kind. The restaurant has fun paintings on the walls and comfy booths, but it’s dimly lit and I have a theory that dim lighting = dim food. This restaurant followed suit. Also, very white. Literally everyone we saw was white.

Me and my girlfriend came here for breakfast and we were really disappointed with the service. It’s seat-yourself, which is fine, if anyone would ever greet you or notice you.. we waited for about 15 minutes for anyone to come over – I looked at the 1 server they had staffed, no luck. There was a decent amount of people inside but seem either short staffed or they’re refusing to pay anyone else to work.. either way, very frustrating.

When we did eventually get our breakfast, the bread on my Norwegian Hollandaise was burnt black. My girlfriend said her French toast tasted off – like it was burnt.

The inside is cozy and our dishes respectively were good enough, not completely offensive, but overall our experience wasn’t great. The cherry on top, when paying the bill our server waited right at the table while I filled out the ‘tip option’. Frankly, I didn’t even want to tip. Let alone their 25%/22%/18% boxes.

We will not be coming back.

The atmosphere was relaxing, beautiful, peaceful, warm, and low lighting. Took my husband on a date. My husband said the atmosphere was tranquil. We had excellent service. Our server brought us water and asked if we were ready to order, came back after a few minutes. Our server even talked about the dishes, and talked to us in general. He was a delight. My husband ordered the steak and I ordered the steelhead dinner. However, I was very torn on getting the burger. I decided the steelhead and it did not disappoint. Our dishes were absolutely perfect. There were no leftovers. For dessert we got the ice cream. We liked the berry one for sure the mint one wasn’t too bad. I’d definitely get both again. We definitely enjoyed our night out and can’t wait to go back.

Food was decent. Service was terrible. Server took our order, food runner delivered food with bacon on it (I dont eat pork and asked to sub avocado in for the bacon.) I pushed my food to the edge of the table and waited 15 minutes for the server to finally come by and ask “are you enjoying everything?” Clearly not paying attention. I said nope, this has bacon. She took it to the kitchen and then came back a minute later with the audacity to ask if it was an allergy, as if I was going to be ok spending $25 on a burger if they just took the bacon off despite them letting it sit getting cold on my table for 15 minutes. I said no I dont eat pork and I would wait for a fresh burger that hadn’t just gotten cold absorbing pork fat for 15 minutes on my table. Got my new burger 10 minutes later. Delicious, but then the server made no apologies or attempt to make it right. No offer of comped dessert and the burger was still on the bill. My wife sat awkwardly nibbling on her meal while I waited 25 minutes total for my food after they screwed it up, then I tried to eat quickly so she didnt have to wait longer for me. If youre the manager or a server at a nice restaurant and food gets messed up, its free.

The culinary offerings are equally impressive. I opted for a medium-well steak accompanied by fries, which were exceptionally delectable. The ambiance is another notable asset, characterized by its cozy ambiance and adequate lighting. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. Despite the cost of approximately $50, the experience is highly worthwhile.

Everything about this place feels special, the warm, historic atmosphere, the attentive and friendly service, and the consistently excellent food. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor, easily exceeding expectations. The craft drinks are just as impressive and pair perfectly with the menu.
Whether you’re there for a relaxed brunch, a date night, or a celebratory dinner, Black Rabbit delivers a memorable experience every time. This is one of those rare restaurants where the ambience, food, and service all come together flawlessly. Highly recommend, easily one of the best dining experiences around.

What can I say about the tater tots? They were absolutely fire. Very delicious. Unfortunately, the Aztec salad and pizza we got were quite average. In fact, I would call them quite forgettable. On top of that, they were wildly overpriced at 19 bucks for the salad at 24 for the pizza. But they weren’t bad by any means. As a visitor to the area, I would also have to give props to the atmosphere and overall experience. It’s wild how the restaurant is on the same piece of land as a distillery, hotel, par-3 course, and glass blowing studio, to name a few things. Anyways, the tater tots are the only worthwhile thing there.
