Foodwise, the cheese curds and fried pickles were bomb. The wings were also really good. The nachos are a HUGE but honestly weren’t that great, so I’d skip those next time I go.
Also, they’re real big on you MUST have an ID to enter. I’ve been to a lot of dive bars where they don’t really care, but if you don’t have an ID they will not let you in so don’t forget it.
Overall, great vibes, great service, and I’d definitely come back for the cheese curds.
Even with a full house, the service was fast-paced and on point. Drinks and food came out quickly, servers kept things moving, and no one looked stressed or forgotten, which, in a packed neighborhood bar, is saying something.
They’ve got a great happy hour menu and daily specials, though I’ll admit I’m a creature of habit. I always go for a Moscow mule, plus an order of their amazing wings and deep-fried cheese curds, because let’s be honest, this is a Wisconsin bar, and the curds are non-negotiable. Thankfully, they never disappoint.
McKenzie’s is one of those rare spots that works for everything: game nights, trivia, casual hangs, or that moment when your friend group just needs a reliable place to park it for a few hours. There’s always something going on, no matter what night of the week you show up.
Final verdict: McKenzie’s is a 10/10 – a full-on Wisconsin tavern experience, just with better weather. Come for the games, stay for the cheese curds, and leave feeling like you just survived a Friday fish fry with your dignity intact and your cholesterol slightly higher.
The food? Outstanding. Every bite was better than the last. The cheese curds alone are worth the trip—perfectly crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and dangerously addictive. Pair those with an ice-cold beer (which they serve at just the right temperature), and you’re in bar food heaven.
Special shoutout to Doug and Alexis, who delivered top-notch service all night long. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely fun to chat with—these two are a huge part of what makes McKenzie’s such a great place to hang out.
Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite, meeting friends for drinks, or just looking for a great local spot, McKenzie’s Midtown Tavern is the place to be. Can’t wait to go back! Actually, I’m going back tonight and meeting up with a friend for a fun night.
