This is an awesome spot to hang out with friends! Whether you’re in the mood to try your luck with a little gambling, enjoy some bingo or queen of hearts, sip on a few drinks, or just relax and eat—this place has it all. The food is consistently amazing, and I highly recommend the fried avocado tacos. You get a generous portion: three loaded tacos with rice and beans on the side. The drinks are always well-made, and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming. They also have a fantastic event space with its own bar and bartender, plus a great outdoor area to kick back and enjoy. Definitely worth a visit!

My wife and I stopped for Friday fish fry after hearing how good it was. It was better than good, it was great, easily one of the best in the area! We both had the two piece fried cod with potato pancakes. Cod was fried to perfection, and the potato pancakes were great also. Service was fantastic, as our server Jade stopped by a number of times to see how we were doing. Can’t wait to come back and try other things on the menu. Nice place to eat!

Went yesterday. Sat for 20 minutes before anyone stopped by. Ordered wings. They were RAW!!! Another 20 minutes later to get a bartender attention. Showed her the raw wings. 30 minutes later still no food!!! I threw $5 on the bar for my drink as again no service and left to go eat and drink elsewhere

Tara the bartender serve a table contaminated on purpose for personal reasons as she laughed. Being a regular customer I brought it to management nothing happened now I’m posting VFW should be ashamed to hire a person that does not reflect what VFW means very concerned how VFW McHenry allows such behavior

I don’t even know where to begin with how appalled I was at this restaurant. The bus boy/dishwasher (whoever he was) was absolutely DISGUSTING!!! I personally witnessed him grabbing himself inappropriately and also witnessed him walking to up to a table only to scream in a gentleman’s face and laugh like it was a joke?? (The only possible explanation?) It was completely vile, childish, and disturbing behavior and it ruined the entire dining experience for me. If this individual is anywhere near the food preparation area, I want no part in eating here. It’s not just unprofessional, it’s unsanitary and flat out offensive. Management should be ashamed for allowing someone like that to represent their establishment. The ONLY saving grace is this bartender I think she said her name was Kayley or maybe Kelly? (She has long blonde hair) she was sweet, attentive and honestly made some amazing concoction of drinks. If it weren’t for her, this would’ve been a zero star review. Bottom line is I will never come back here unless some serious changes are made.

Been at this VFW before to see musical acts and dancing. First time for dinner. Very surprised at the variety on the menu. Good beer and wine choices too. Food was very goodand the staff was attentive and friendly. We will be back and will eat again.

We have a blast every time we come to the VFW. The renovation, guests and staff make it the perfect ‘where everybody knows your name’ place to be. I can’t say enough about our favorite bartender, Kelly! She is such a sweetheart and remembers our favorite ‘beverage’ even after months of our last visit.
McHenry is so blessed to have this special place to have your favorite cocktail and GREAT food.
