You get the bruschetta! If you like wine, they have some of the best. For a red blend, not really dry or tart… more like a jam taste, I was recommended the Chronology red blend- California by our waitress.
We both had ordered from their dinner items not listed on the menu, I had a Chicago blackened steak, wasn’t as flavorful was expecting but overall impressed with our meals. The lobster was GOOD. 10/10 recommend, we had great service as well. I appreciate the noise level, and lighting definitely set the mood. I appreciate this place and will definitely be going back.
An in-depth look at the reviews revealed a lot of bitchin’ from Google reviewers that were charged a $3 empty plate fee. Many patrons brought birthday cake into the restaurant expecting to use the restaurant’s waitstaff and dishwashing service for free. I side with the restaurant on this issue. They tie up tables, and use the services. A charge is reasonable. On the Yelp side, older dated reviews complain of food quality and service, which drug the rating down. Most recent reviews on Google are very positive.
McGill’s for lunch today.
12 noon, the restaurant was half empty. Greeting us, the host questioned if we had reservations. Fortunately, they were able to squeeze us in. Quickly escorted to a booth. The upscale atmosphere: decor, lighting, and ambiance, made a positive impression.
Within seconds Katie, one of the smartly dressed wait staff was at our table, greeting us, delivering menus and taking our drink orders. The service was excellent throughout the meal.
House salad and French onion soup for me. A California Cob for my wife. Had to try the deviled Eggs. All good. The lunch menu offers a variety that should satisfy anyone. The service is fast. Try lunch.
My only complaint was the strong fish odor emanating from the kitchen, invading the dining room. An unpleasant aroma that doesn’t complement fine dining.
The French Onion Soup BTW….SO good!
The food:
we ordered onion soup which was delicious. You must try it .
The shrimp and chicken cocktail, it was not bad but it was not special.
The dessert was carrot cake it was a big slice and very delicious.
Around 7:40pm , we were ushered to a table. We were placed at a table by the exit to the patio. My wife had to shift to another seat at the table because there was a noticeable cold breeze coming across the wall. It was chilly. Within a few minutes, our waitress greeted us and took our drink order. We looked through the menu prior to visiting, and we already knew what we wanted for an appetizer and entrées, so she took our food order as well.
Sesame encrusted ahi tuna was the first up. The first thing you notice is the beautiful color of the ahi, followed by the nice light sear and sesame seeds. Accompanying the ahi was a portion of sliced avacado, ponzu sauce, and a small swirl of wasabi. The ahi was fresh, sliced thin yet not too thin, and had more of natural ahi flavor. When combining the ponzu and mixing, avacado or wasabi just enhanced the flavor.
My wife had the chicken picatta. The chicken was floured more than a dusting, covered in a lemon caper butter sauce on top of 2 stalks of asparagus followed by angel hair pasta. The chicken was moist and tasted great with the lemon caper butter sauce. While the pasta was cooked perfectly, the asparagus stalks were slightly undercooked. Although the sauce tasted good, my wife felt like it needed something, as did I, yet we couldn’t determine what.
I went with the blue cheese cream sauce strip steak with double veggies and ditched the potatoe. When my dish arrived, I was excited. It looked delicious. Being a blue cheese fan, I loved the sauce. It wasn’t overbearing and really complimented the steak. The veggies were fresh and cooked tender yet not too tender. I did have our waitress grind fresh black pepper over everything. The steak had a great sear with a slightly crispy crust. Personally, the steak was cooked just a hair over medium rare but not so much to complain. I was disappointed that one side of the strip had a decent amount of fat and gristle. Looking at the dish as a whole, I was happy. Next time I visit, I’ll be getting the ribeye and add the blue cheese cream sauce.
Overall, the hostess did a great job getting us a table after an oversight. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful, and attentive. Food arrived in a reasonable time and was hot. Flavors were good, especially the blue cheese cream sauce. The place was nice, upscale without being considered fine dining. Looking across the room, you’ll see that most people are dressed up, some very fancy, while others were more casual. The dining room was fairly noisy when they were busy. If you’re looking for a good meal in an upscale casual environment, then this place fits the bill at a fair price. Date night at a romantic, more of an intimate dining experience, then I would look elsewhere.
