Food was fresh and tasty, coffee was extra bitter.
At roughly 7:45 PM, with no one in the drive through line, I was told the standard, we’re waiting on fries “Please pull into slot A”. Normally, totally fine. I get it. We got to keep the line moving. I know exactly what that was like.
Unfortunately, I draw the line at doing so at the pointless risk of making an employee walk to slot A or B, in freezing temperatures, when no other people are waiting on food, with black ice on the ground.
The reason they gave me to keep pulling forward was that “sorry, we’re short staffed, can you please just pull forward?”
I’m uncertain the logic behind that, as if an employee slips on the ice and files workman’s compensation for cracking their head open on a slick asphalt would certainly leave them short staffed.
I didn’t put up a fuss, I just pulled forward. But, while I doubt McDonalds probably doesn’t care about what I think, I at least won’t patron a place that has a policy insistent on dangerous policies that could harm the employees.
I did my hell time in customer service; I won’t risk others to be harmed–because you or this franchise rules insist more on efficiency then safety. If the sweet gentleman who’d brought me my food had slipped, my Dashcam footage would be to his attorney in a heartbeat. I actually apologized to him that he had to come out to bring me the food.
Not every customer is attempting to argue when they bring up a point to your employees at the window, especially when they aren’t being confrontational. Sometimes I just don’t want someone getting hurt. Perhaps they just get it so often from horrific customers, that they simply just repeat what they say and it’s not worth it to put up a fuss. I didn’t make a scene or anything, I just did what I was asked, and will have this stance moving forward.
I never thought I’d say this, but for other customers who might want a different option, there’s a halfway decent Wendy’s over near the on/off ramp in the Gas Station, with a very quiet drive through line and plenty of space. Let’s be serious, their fries are nowhere near as good as McDonalds, but they have other things that are comparable.
1) I just ordered an ice cream after a long day. Continued to wait in my car listening to an audiobook. It seemed like a bit of time had passed and I had seen people come and go. After about 15 minutes I looked and they had marked my order completed. So I got out of the car and went inside where I was ignored by employees even though they were looking right at me! Finally a girl came from all the way in the back to see if I needed anything. I let her know what happened and she got my ice cream.
2) I was driving the 5 minutes from work for a mobile pick up order. A fry and a frozen coke. Within that 5 minutes they had marked my order completed. When I got to McDonalds and opened the app it read “Your order was completed before receiving a spot number please go to the counter or drive through and provide your order number XXXX to a server.” So I went through the drive through and was asked to wait. I waited 10 minutes for the employee to come back and say “It says that’s an invalid mobile order number. So I read the statement to him. He got his manager who was ABSOLUTELY rude. Not an I’m sorry that happened or oh I’m not sure how that happened but a “well you need to get here faster pull up to the second window.”
I’m not sure if anyone even actually reads these but that is absolutely ridiculous. Rude people, poor service, and cold food. Then they ask for $17 / hour to stand around doing nothing it seems.
One thing I noticed was that they had monitors in both drive through windows showing the time customers had to wait. The times were fairly low – under 60 seconds I think. But here is the way they must keep the time down. They had put the two cars in front of us in the “drive thru wait line” when they didn’t have their food ready. They did the same to us and the car behind us — so 4 cars in a row didn’t have to sit long at the window, but we waited for at least 5 minutes in the waiting area.
To make things worse, when they brought us the smoothie we had waited for…they didn’t bring a straw. The woman said she would be right back with one but since I had one in the car we used that one and drove off…she had not returned in the extra 2 minutes it took us to pack up and leave.
