If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to walk into a live-action episode of “Kitchen Nightmares,” congratulations — this McDonald’s in Columbus, KS has you covered.
I walked in and immediately thought I had stumbled onto the set of a post-apocalyptic cooking show, where fries rain from the sky, seasoning explodes like confetti, and the floor is basically a Slip ’N Slide made of sadness. I’ve seen cleaner trenches in Army field training — and that’s saying something.
There were food scraps everywhere, a blue mysterious bag on the floor (crime scene? snack? nobody knows), and enough trash scattered around the kitchen to qualify as modern art. I’m honestly convinced the fryer area hasn’t been cleaned since the McRib’s FIRST limited release in the 80s.
The staff was just working around the mess like it was perfectly normal, which tells me this wasn’t a bad moment — this is their Monday through Sunday personality.
If the Kansas Department of Agriculture walks in here, they’re gonna need backup, gloves, and possibly a priest.
Would I eat here again?
Absolutely not.
Would I recommend it?
Only if you’re filming a documentary on “The Decline of Western Civilization: Fast Food Edition.”

Quick breakfast, delicious, affordable. Most always made with care, though the ham slices are thinner now than they used to be. Can’t beat a sausage biscuit for $1. Great staff.

I went inside for the first time at this location, and I was completely ignored for 5 minutes. Then when they finally took my order, they gave it to some random person in the window. I heard them say it, so I went to tell them that it was my order. This was all after waiting 20 minutes. It took me five minutes to tell them that they called out my order in the back for the drive thru. They went and got me one part of my order. Then walked off. The lady came back and said, pretty aggressively, “why are you standing here!?” I said I only got part of my order. She said “well I don’t know where it went.” Then walked off. Then the person they gave it to walked in. When they finally got back to that person, they gave them their order which had been sitting there getting cold. Then said “looks like we know what happened to your order” while doing nothing. Then five minutes later she came over and said, again aggressively, “why are you still standing there!?” I said I still had only gotten part of my order and explained everything that should be in it. She stormed off after giving me another small part of my order. Then went away again. I had to again wait, and again tell her part of my order was missing before she finally put the order together. Then a guy handed it to me. I specifically asked him “you have the drink and the sauces right?” He got the sauces then went to the back to just drink a drink in the back while ignoring that I still hadn’t gotten my drink. Finally another lady came up and got me my drink and then I left. 45 minutes to get my order, and I had to practically demand it out of them every step of the way. I could have gone back in there and cooked it myself faster. To top it all off, the burger was still wrong when I got it. Absolutely atrocious that it took so long and their attitude the whole time.
I have been going here for a long time. This is my second time giving a 1 star review, but I rescinded the first one because I thought they were doing better. I still get wrong orders from time to time too. But this situation was a colossal mess. They could not verify my order was complete after five times of my having to tell them it was incomplete. There is definitely some issues in management at this location.

Passing through as I visited the area (Pittsburg).. was super excited to have the all day breakfast (Egg McMuffin)went in and got my food Togo. Got to the car ready to dive in and found my sandwich that I ordered to have the egg not fully cooked. So I went back in with appetite now gone and got my money refunded… Super unfortunate experience for me as I don’t eat McDonald’s very often…will have to pass next time I am in the area. Some people love undercooked eggs…not me. Chicken tenders were tasty but not hot – reason for the 2 star rating..

Food was good once the order was right. Had to get 3 different drinks because the dark ones tasted like straight carbonation. Mixed so thin looked like light tea.was like that a month ago someone needs taught how mix it.

I love McDonald’s but this place was not good. The atmosphere is very unpleasant. The manager is very bossy and rude to her employees in front of customers. The food tasted like oil that hasn’t been changed in weeks. It smells and looks very unclean. I was traveling and was hungry so I didn’t have a choice but to eat here if not I would have not eaten there. I hope they step up their quality of work ethic and cleanliness at this location. Specially since they are at a very convenient spot for travelers.

This place served hot food. My fish was hot. My nuggets were hot and delicious. His burger was hot and delicious. That’s the way food is supposed to be served to their customers. Great job to this crew! we were very happy with our food and service. Clean restroom, clean restaurant. Very friendly staff as soon as we walked in, we were acknowledged. Plenty of parking. Fresh fresh food and hospitality was very appreciated.
