What I received was an act of culinary aggression. The burger was overcooked to the point of desiccation, yet somehow, paradoxically, ice cold. It was dry, tough, and sitting on a bun that offered more structural support than flavor. The “ketchup and cheese” instruction was clearly treated as a mere suggestion. The cheese was there, but the ketchup? Missing. Not a drop. I was left with a dry, cold, meat puck.
The most insulting part, however, wasn’t the food; it was the audacity. You can’t assemble two patties, a slice of cheese, and a squirt of ketchup, but you apparently had plenty of time to craft a little tip cup out of cardboard and Sharpie. The staff hovered over the card reader, lingering on the tip screen with an expectant stare, and actually had the gall to roll their eyes when I didn’t tip.
Let me be clear: I do not tip for failure. I do not tip for cold food. I certainly do not tip when the only thing prepared with care was the attitude. If you want a tip, try making an order that is warmer than the air surrounding it and actually includes the sauce requested. Until then, keep the eye rolls and fix the burgers.
My family has had three really bad experiences in a row at the Wakefield location. Three weeks ago, every single item in my order was incorrect. (e.g., the hamburger with ketchup only had onions, pickles, etc.)
Last week, the dining room was inexplicably closed at 4:00pm so we waited 20 minutes since we had promised our children McDonald’s. The manager rose her voice at my wife because we were given a regular Coke instead of a frozen coke and asked for it to be exchanged to what we had ordered and paid for.
Today, the dining room is closed and locked yet again without explanation. (See picture – this is 5:25pm on a Sunday.). There are 15 cars in line yet only one drive thru lane is open.
When my children and their friends want McDonald’s, I’m going to drive a few extra miles to the Wyoming, RI location. This is inconvenient, but that location is clean, fast and friendly.
