Hayley is the magical presence at McAlister’s Deli who enhances your visit and sets this place apart. She greeted us as we entered, gave helpful recommendations when we ordered, and checked on us periodically through our stay. Hayley gets all the credit for the 5-star service.
The restaurant is in a good location. I can’t remember which fast food chain used to be here (probably a Burger King or something), but they did a good job making it their own. There’s plenty of parking, although the prime spots go quick. The heat from the heater was a little too high for me, but that’s personal preference.
I enjoyed my visit. I’ve had McAlister’s in the South, and this location lives up to the standards. It’s better than Zupas and Panera, but not as good as Paradise Bakery (which pretty much doesn’t exist anymore, except in Dallas). Because it’s my wife’s favorite deli of all time, I’ll be back.
I ordered a Club sandwich and a Reuben. Both sandwiches had a good amount of meat, which I appreciated. The Club came on plain wheat bread, which was a bit underwhelming, and while the Reuben had nicely marbled rye, it really needed to be toasted to bring out the flavor and texture. That small change would’ve made a big difference!
Also tried the crab chowder—unfortunately, it wasn’t a hit for me. It had a strong spicy kick and didn’t taste homemade. On the other hand, the Savannah salad was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious—definitely the highlight of the meal.
Before leaving I realized they forgot my soup, ran in and they upgraded to a bowl instead of a cup.. and threw in a chocolate chip cookie for the mistake. Great cookie!
I’d absolutely come back to try more items. The place has great potential, but please toast the bread—it would take the sandwiches up a notch! Oh and chop up the cucs smaller. Little changes would make big difference.
Tonight we never got our food. We ordered through a 3rd party. And I’m already escalating the issues with that as well. But after over an hour of not having our food yet, we called the restaurant to see if they were experiencing high volume delays. There was a driver actively waiting for the food while we were on the phone with the restaurant but the claimed that the food was stolen and there was nothing they could do to help us. Knowing that it was stolen, knowing the delivery driver was present in the dining room, and knowing there was a very hungry 1 year old waiting for this food… the guy on the phone just kept repeating “there isn’t anything we can do” over and over again instead of letting us speak.
We hung up on him after the 5th “nothing we can do, it’s your fault for going third party”.
I’ve worked the restaurant industry for many many years. And I’ve remade a lot of online delivery service food for various reasons. So I don’t accept that there wasn’t anything he could do. He simply did not want to. And because of this, I’ll never return. Not in person, or online orders.
Extremely disappointing experience at this new location. I presented a coupon that was successfully scanned, recognized, and validated by their own POS app system, yet the staff and management refused to honor the discount. It is frustrating to have a system confirm a deal only to have the employees flat-out deny it.
I even attempted to resolve this through their corporate 1-800 line, but they were unable to provide any assistance or override the local store’s decision. As a new business in Sandy, you would expect better service and a commitment to honoring their own validated promotions. I won’t be returning until they fix their system and train their staff on basic customer service.
The food is great, so is their tea!! Always delicious. All the staff have so far been really nice and helpful.
So glad there’s a McAlister’s here yipee
