Here for an early lunch and to meet with a student. Place was quiet and good for conversation.
Staff was very freindly and even tough one ordered at the counter, staff stopped by twice to ask how things were and even offered to talke pur empty plates. Not something that happens at similar locations which I found very nice.
A very extensive menu of snadwiches, soups and baked potatoes which they refer to as Giant Spuds. And the spuds did look large. The salads are also quite large. The student I was with ordered a side salad and it was quite large. And he enjoyed it. He also had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which he said was good.
I ordered off the CHoose 2 menu. I had a half cup of Cheddar Broccolo and a half BLT+A (the A for avocado). The sandwich was very good, lots of bacon and the avocado was a nice addition. The soup was hot and good. When the staff person came by and asked if I needed anything, I asked for some crackers. She brought them right out. Sweet. The cost ended up being $12.69 which included an extra $1.50 for the BLT and I’m not sure why. Still the price was decent.
Both the sandwich and the Choose 2 came with a pickle spear that was good. I would have prefered a bag of chips, but that was extra. At some other places you would get chips as a side. So be it.
The iced tea was excellent – they also have sweet tea and two different lemonades that are good.
I also noticed that they had a sign abiout GLuten-free options. THe salads and giant spuds certainly being among those. WIll need to explore that on another trip.
Lastly, the staff and the atmosphere really add to the experience here. A very pleasant place to stop for a bite to eat.
Note: Learn from my mistake and read the menu carefully. If you order “nachos”, you will be served tortilla chips and cheese dip.
It does come with more chips than pictured, I obliterated half of them before taking the photo.
And, it was well worth the wait. Simply put… nice place, good food, and friendly, hardworking staff. Pretty nice range of sandwhiches to choose from on the menu. My one and only extremely minor complaint is that they make their country potato soup a tiny bit on the thin side for my liking. But, nothing really bad. Plus, I think some people might like their potato soup a tiny bit thinner. I guess I say It’s a tiny bit thin because I got kind of used to eating cans of Chunky’s potato Soup from the grocery stores from time to time. (So, that part is on me). Again, It’s nothing that changes my opinion to the worse about McCallister’s Deli. Anyway, they have serve yourself fountain drinks (soda pop) and tea. Speaking of which, if you download their app and sign up for their rewards program, you get a free tea. All in all, after careful consideration, I can find no good reason to not give McCallister’s Deli 5 stars. As I said before, McCallister’s Deli was well worth the wait for It’s grand opening on Alpine Ave in Green Ridge Shopping Center. (In my opinion).
