McAlister’s Deli off Nicholasville Road in Lexington consistently delivers solid food paired with genuinely attentive, professional service. The setup is a bit of a hybrid—you order at the counter, then receive table service—which always leaves you wondering about tipping etiquette, but the staff works hard enough that leaving something feels right.

The club sandwich was excellent, easily top-tier for this style of deli. High-quality meats, a perfect bread-to-filling ratio, and bread that actually adds character instead of just holding things together. The stuffed baked potato is also a standout—hearty, flavorful, and well-executed. We tried the ham and cheese melt, which impressed for an unexpected reason: the tomato slice was thin enough to complement the sandwich rather than overpower it, a detail that shows real care in preparation.

The broccoli cheddar soup was rich and satisfying, the red beans and rice had a noticeable smoked sausage flavor, and while the potato salad leaned a bit bland, a dash of pepper or hot sauce fixed it easily. Finish with the carrot cake—excellent cream cheese icing and great texture. Overall, this location nails both food quality and service. I’d absolutely eat here again.

Not the worst choice for lunch. Portion sizes are small for the price. Wasn’t super impressed with the flavors or quality of the food, that isnt saying its bad food, just not “blow-me-away” good. Had two modest meals for roughly $50. Probably won’t go back of my own volition, but wouldn’t turn down an invitation with a friend/family. The staff weren’t rude but they seemed a touch rushed to move you along and out of the line, despite there not being a line at the time. Not bad service, not outstanding service. A pretty mid restaurant overall.

Quick service. You order at the counter and can take it to go or eat there. I had the half bacon spud and half McAllister club. It felt like more of a 1/4 of the club but it was good and the potato was good too.

Update 10.29.2025:
It had been years since we had been to McAlister’s. We have always liked it, but we just don’t live in that area of town. We went there on a whim because neither of us were craving anything in particular. We went in and grabbed a paper menu at the front. We sat down to look at it. A couple of minutes later a very friendly staff member came by and asked if we had any questions. She told us the most popular options. I ended up ordering the “Choose 2”. I didn’t know which sandwich I wanted so I got two with completely different flavor profiles. They were both delicious! I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite and would get them both together again. Both were sauced well and had depth of flavor. Even though McAlister’s is across down, I have thought about going back because they were so good. Tables were all clean and staff was friendly. No negatives.

Previous Post/Previous Location: I ordered from this location for delivery. The ordered arrived well before the quoted time. I appreciated that the soup was wrapped so it would not spill. They did not skimp on the sandwich toppings and it was very flavorful. Negative was the high cost with additional fees and they forgot the pickle that was supposed to come with the meal.

Got a gift card for Christmas to McAllisters because it’s one of my favorite sandwich places. As I walk in and try to order and use the gift card as payment I was told no money was on it and treated as if I had stolen the card. I called the customer service line and they confirmed there was $50 balance on. Tried again with the gift card and was told in store that the balance was $0 so I paid out of pocket. When I received my food the bread of the sandwich was completely burnt. Not a good experience at this location.

I am a Doordash delivery driver. Every time I go here to pick up an order(and its quite often) they are nice, polite, helpful, courteous, professional, accurate, and timely!! There is not one bad thing I can say. If you are looking for a great eating experience that wont break your budget than this is it!! They have a kids menu, they offer eating in or carry out. Or you could Doordash I have NEVER had any customer complaints from here.

Missing my bag of chips, extremely small portion of broccoli and barely any cheese or bacon on my potato. Whoever made this acts like they are the ones paying for the ingredients… Inflation isn’t that bad guys, c’mon.

I work right beside here and it is frequently visited by myself and coworkers. The wait is always forever and we plan accordingly. Today I waited what seemed like forever for just a kids french bread pizza. Normally this is fairly sized and normally looks fantastic. Today I ended up with two of the smallest end pieces and cheese wasn’t even on both sides fully neither was the sauce. It also was room temperature. Pretty upset because my whole lunch break was waisted on this and I don’t even have time to go in and talk to someone. I wouldn’t even consider giving this to either of my children.

Ordered the Spicy Turkey Melt. Arrived cold without any vegetables and very little turkey. Look at the pic of the sandwich from their website vs the one I received.
