Great food. Plenty of options. Large seating area both in and outdoors. Order at the counter and food is brought to your table. Staff was excellent. Restaurant was clean.

A Truly Disappointing Visit – McAlister’s Deli Needs New Leadership

I don’t usually write reviews, but after the experience my mother and I had at McAlister’s Deli recently, I felt it was necessary.

We walked in hoping for a simple, enjoyable lunch together. What greeted us instead was a scene of neglect and indifference: not one, not two, but six dirty tables scattered around the dining area—all untouched the entire time we were there. It was clear no effort had been made to maintain any level of cleanliness.

Despite the mess, we decided to stay and order before we were starving. Maybe they were just busy, we thought. But as we looked around, we noticed there were only two other customers in the entire restaurant—a quiet couple sitting in the corner. So busy, they were not.

After placing our order, the woman at the counter handed my mother her receipt without saying a single word. No smile, no thank you, not even a “have a nice day.” My mom looked at me and said, “Wow… what a lack of customer service.” I had to agree.

We sat down, hoping the food might redeem the experience. Five minutes passed, and then ten. We watched, puzzled, as our food sat on the counter, ready, just staring back at us. Meanwhile, we noticed three other employees sitting in the manager’s office, completely disengaged from what was happening out front.

Fifteen minutes in, I stood at the counter while our food remained untouched. The employee was busy correcting another customer’s order (which they had messed up), and still, no one acknowledged me or the food sitting in plain view. They just spoke over it and I was getting worried I was going to be eating their spit over the conversation they had over my food just sitting on the counter.

Finally, after 20 minutes of waiting, I asked, “Can I please take my food, even though you’re supposed to bring it to the table?” A kitchen worker came out to help the overwhelmed counter staff, handed me our tray, and walked away. No silverware. No pickle. No dressing on the side, which I had specifically asked for & paid for. At that point, it was just insult added to injury.

We sat and ate quietly, surrounded by the same six dirty tables, which—by the way—still hadn’t been cleaned by the time we left. Even as the supposed managers walked by them repeatedly, they never lifted a finger to help or direct their staff.

It’s a shame. What could’ve been a peaceful lunch with my mother turned into a frustrating reminder of how poor management and disinterested staff can ruin an entire experience. Safe to say, we won’t be returning until there’s new leadership in place.

McAlister’s Deli, do better. Your guests deserve better. Truly disappointed.

First, let me start by apologizing for the bites in the sandwiches, lol. We started eating before we thought to take the picture. The food was amazing and fresh. The store was very busy as it was the beginning of lunch. They still managed to get our food out very fast. I ordered the Ruben, and my husband had the Memphian. We chose the choose 2 option. It came with a salad and half of a sandwich. The food was good, and we will definitely go back again.

I was disappointed with my food today. Although there was plenty of meat on my Ruben it lack taste. First of all, it was COLD, no Ruben is served cold. That’s a corn beef sandwich without the sauerkraut. The bread was not grilled n the sauerkraut was as cold as the meat. If there was Russian or thousand island dressing I surely didn’t taste it. At the price you pay for a good sandwich at least make it correctly. I was ask if I wanted a pickle. But never got it, never got my number ( i had to go back to the counter & ask) Continuing poor quantity means no customer, I’ll go to another deli to get a Ruben correctly made.

Giving it 5 starts, although the last time we were in, they were OUT OF SALADS! Consistently good. I like the 1/2 and 1/2 menu.
5/20/23 lunch. Broccoli cheddar soup was a bit goey today. Tomato/ cucumber salad was TANGY. Got a few cookie! Husband’s club sandwich and potato salad were good.

7/19/23 no baked potatoes…boo. otherwise, yum

10/15/23 French dip. Good. I like just the steak and cheese. Didn’t taste the au jus, so can’t comment on that. My husband got the whole potato farm in one potato! He said it was good. Clean and good service.

6/3/25 stopped for lunch. My husband lives their club sandwich. I decided to try one… my eat… just ham. They accommodated my request. Good sandwich. Quick service.

There was a lot of talk about not wanting to be open the day before Thanksgiving. Maybe this is why my Order was not correct. It’s my fault for not checking my bag. Also, the cooks should know to WASH their hands before preparing food instead of just grabbing gloves. I’m seriously thinking about reporting this establishment to the Health Department. Someone also needs to teach them to Change gloves when touching different types of meat. Contamination is a part of Food Safety and Food Preparation 101. This was a complete waste of money. First and Last time we will eat at this place. I Do NOT RECOMMEND this place.

Delightful dining experience with great food and friendly service. I’m an absolute fan of the French dip in particular, and the variety of soups and sides. The iced tea is always perfect, and I love the tortilla soup! The interior dining area is comfortably cool in summer and consistently clean. There is also an outdoor patio dining area, though out in the open (no shade), so better for the cooler months. This is a favorite stop of ours when we are passing through Savannah.

Ordered a catering lunch for work and it went horribly wrong. For starters the driver was 45 minutes late. Every time we called the store; they said the driver was in traffic. We pulled up google maps and it was literally NO traffic at all. We he finally arrived he smelled like a pack of walking cigarettes. Why would you smoke in the car KNOWING you are delivering food?! The bread on one of the king chicken clubs wasn’t toasted and to add injury to insult they put the end piece of the bread in the middle of the sandwich! I’ve NEVER had a restaurant give me the end piece of any bread. My coworkers’ macaroni and cheese was ice cold. The store didn’t attempt to heat it up. We called the day before and requested pickles which we did NOT get. The last straw was my other coworker has a long piece of hair in his sandwich. He literally got down to the last two bites and pulled the hair out of his mouth. We spent way too much money to receive this terrible service. Orders mixed up, cold items, cigarette smoke, and long hair is NOT what we paid for.

My first visit. It was pretty good. Very friendly staff. Good menu selections. Great unsweetened ice tea. The Italian was very tasty but could have used a bunch more meat. Good ambiance and COVID-19 ready.
