So excited! We have finally found our spot to get queso. The extra bonus is the added chorizo. Blanca was amazing. So sweet and very helpful. We will be back to try some other items on the menu.

When my wife and I moved to Redding a few years ago, Mazatlan was the first restaurant we went to. Looked cool on the outside! We had a fine dinner that evening.
Recently we were hungry for some Mexican chow. We hadn’t been to Mazatlan in over a year (there are lots of good Mexican places in Redding!) so off we went.
We arrived around 6:30PM on a Saturday night. The place was lively, maybe80% full.
Our hostess greeted us with a big smile and immediately brought is to our table. As we walked into that room (there are 2 dining areas) there was a large table of very happy, celebratory young adults – make a lot of happy noise (hooots, table slapping etc). We asked if we could sit in a more quiet area. Our hostess laughed and took us to the other side. Much quieter.
We were quickly visited by our waitress for the evening. A really friendly person (I forgot her name…). Lots of smiles and pleasent. We ordered our drinks. My wife wanted a Margarita and our waitress helped her make her decision – on the rocks, no salt. I had my go to brew – Sierra Nevada Pale Ale – they have it on tap! 🙂
After going through the extensive (and pretty informative) menu we settled on Chile Verde and the Plato Al Pastor.
As soon as our drinks arrived a nice basket of crispy, nicely salted tortilla chips and two dips. A perfectly balanced tomato salsa – not too thick or too thin and just the right spice level. The other was some kind of bean and chopped vegetable medley in a tart dressing.
Both were excellent – in fact we ordered another bowl of salsa. The bean medley was a nice compliment to the salsa. Would love to have it again!
Our food arrived not long after (almost too soon – we were enjoying the chips and salsa too much!!!) LOL
The Chile Verde was spot on. A tasty, rich and a little tart green tomatillo sauce with a fine combinatioin of fried onions and peppers. The pork was cubed just right and was both tender and flavorful. Well done!
My Plato Al Pastor was good – very tasty a nice vinegar based red sauce with grilled pineapples. The flavors mixed great! The pork, the tangy sauce and the smoky sweet pineapple. I had to take one star off – IMHO the pork was diced a little too small. It worked great when put on one of the warm fresh tortillas – but eating it standalone was a bit of a challenge since the star of the dish (the pork) was diced pretty small.
Both portions were generous and we had enough to take some home!
The sides of rice and refried beans were also very good – nice and hot, good flavors.
It was a fun and tasty meal in a lively and colorful place!
Highly recommended 🙂

I visit pretty regularly. I’ve never had a bad experience. They always go above and beyond for their customers. The food is great. Couldn’t be more impressed.

We came here for lunch and had a great server named Amanda. Really nice personality in general and was really accommodating, offering to box out food for us etc. I’ve had similar experience with the other servers there as well. Highly recommend if you appreciate friendly servers!

This food touched my soul for some reason! (¡Esta comida me tocó el alma!) The flavors were perfect and exactly what I was looking for (and I didn’t even realize I was looking for it!) The bean salad dip (frijoles) were an amazing and new delight. I bathed myself in the fajita burrito (I think I ended up wearing as much as I ate…). My wife had the chicken and shrimp fajitas. (Don’t eat shrimp so I can’t speak to that, but she really enjoyed them.) My wife also asked for a cherry coke which was then mixed at the bar with cherries (she was ecstatic and giddy like a little girl). Service was top notch (Server was Sandra). Atmosphere was a little, just a little, underwhelming. Decor was on par for a Mexican restaurant. Bar was nicely done. A tad noisy despite the slow night. But what really lost a star was the extreme bleach smell from mopping very near us while they were still open and us still eating. (The meal is over and my nose is still burning as I write this!) All things considered, we will definitely be back!

From the moment you walk through the door, you know… THIS IS GUNNA BE GOOD! The smell hits you in the face like a chimichanga train from delicious town. The service was fantastic.. The food… Flavorful and fantastic. The atmosphere was eclectic and fun. Total south coastal mexican vibe. The margaritas were tastey and refreshing. Salsa was full of spice and hit the spot with the heat level.. Somewhere between, just enough and yeah baby this has some great kick… Pricing was affordable and held it’s value with the quality of the food…. This spot is a MUST visit again for great eats…

Bring your appetite! Large dishes of tasty comidas that are fresh and are delivered promptly. A good selection of beer on tap and tasty margaritas. The service is fantastic! Friendly and thoughtful. You can even practice your Spanish with the staff. Reasonable prices, fresh tortilla chips, and the best salsas. There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long!
