This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. The food tasted like the seafood had been thawed and refrozen multiple times before being fried just to fill orders. The shrimp, in particular, had a strong chemical taste that was extremely off-putting and concerning.
On top of the food quality, the customer service was terrible. The manager’s attitude toward us was outright horrible. Despite us not eating the food because of how bad it tasted, we were still pressured to pay for it. There was no accountability or concern for customer satisfaction.
If this is how food is being prepared and served, the restaurant seriously needs to rethink its operations. Serving food that tastes this unsafe is unacceptable and could genuinely make someone sick. I would never recommend this awful Mayflower in Durham to anyone.

We haven’t been here in many, many years, so I read through some reviews, and we decided to give it a shot for lunch on Saturday. We were pleasantly surprised in all respects!
The service was excellent! Very friendly waiter who was very attentive and made sure our drinks were filled and got anything else we might need.
The food was delicious! Everything was lightly fried to perfection. My spouse had fried scallops that she said were perfect with fries. I had the white fish and clam strips with a baked potato. The fish was so flakey, and so many of the clam strips were much bigger than I’ve seen in years, plus no rubbery texture. Both entrees came with slaw. We both had leftovers.
The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated with a nautical theme throughout, including an actual boat serving as the desk where you pay when leaving.
We were thrilled to find the Mayflower serving up such great seafood and plan on returning sooner rather than later. Honestly, I’m surprised there wasn’t a line out the door!

Pictures are worth a thousand words and I absolutely cannot fit all that I would like to say into this review so I’ll just keep it short and simple. 3/8/25 <-(today) was the last time I will ever eat mayflower again, and should’ve just listened to my own self by going to Bojangles originally for something quick and easy for a Saturday night dinner. Completely pissed off with this here bug/mosquito in my food.

Really delicious fried sea food. This place offers a great menu of food items which are fried or boiled. Shrimp, flounder, trout, oyster, and more.
Be aware that even though you can find steak or chicken in its menu, the specialty of this restaurant is fried or boiled seafood. If it is what you are looking for, go ahead, if not I highly recommend go other place.
My rate is based on what I ate and my experience. I like the food and it looks good but, I will suggest more like because it feel dark inside. I will give you a five star but, I think it is time to redecorate the place. Modernist will be great without loosing the essence.

I’ve been a Mayflowers customer for years!! I typically order fried flounder and shrimp but a friend suggested I try their boiled salmon and it was delicious!!! I’m hooked on this dish at least for the remainder of the year. Also this post is long overdue the service is excellent! The food is reasonably priced and delicious!! Oh I also ask for my fish to be salt and peppered fried. Ummm ummm good.

We have eaten at several Mayflowers. This is the best we have had anywhere – Winston Salem, Henderson NC, Raleigh. The food was hot and fresh, hush puppies had not been re-fried and we’re not heavy with grease. Restarant was clean. Waiter was attentive. We will go back. Highly recommend. We were there at 4:30

In our of my late mother, I wanted to visit one of her favorite places. I’ve heard Mayflower quality has become very poor. As I haven’t been in over 7 years, I was pleased with how fresh the food was. Waiting staff was very attentive. The place is very dated but overall, I would return again.

Ok so let’s just talk about the chicken since that my specialty. I put the pic up of me trying to eat it… it wasn’t done. I’m confused because the majority of the food served is fried therefore adding fried chicken is a no brainer. Anywho everything else appeared to be delicious my friends enjoyed their meal. I was disappointed and unable to finish my meal so I went elsewhere to eat.
Let’s just chalk it up to a no so good experience. However, not going back!

OMG! So clean, excellent service, and HUGE portions! It was tasted so good and so fresh. I’ll be driving in from Greenville because our Mayflower doesn’t even come close. If you’ve never tried it, go. It is awesome!
