We went on Easter Sunday got seated almost instantly , our waitress really wasn’t attentive about the drinks . My husband and I both got the baby flounder and shrimp with a loaded baked potato and he also got a side of Mac and cheese ( was NOT good and do not recommend , he took one bite ) the hush puppies were my favorite , super fresh and crispy . The only bad thing that took me by surprised was that they don’t have fresh lemons , only lemon juice which is not the same .

I’ve always had exceptional food from Mayflower, including last weekend. However, today, I got a takeout order, and this was the worst food I ever got from Mayflower in all the years I’ve patronized them. I had a 3 item combo – the Oysters were nice and crisp; the Flounder was fried to where it was like leather; the breading was falling off the Shrimp and the baked potato wasn’t fully cooked. I’m guessing there must be a new cook. I spent over $17 for this meal and was completely disappointed.

If you want seafood in large portions (you get your money’s worth) this is your go to spot. It is definitely southern comfort food. My favorite is the fried popcorn shrimp and whiting platter with slaw, baked potato, and hush puppies! My family and I have been eating at Mayflower since the original one stood in the same location. We always have great service and see our dearest friends when we visit. They always have a way to accommodate or large family.

I drive past Mayflower Winston Salem, to 17 miles to Mayflower Rural Hall, because the WS location is horrible. The fried oysters and whitefish are breaded with a horrible coating, and are overly salty, whereas Rural Hall’s fried oysters and white fish are coated with a superior breading that just tastes better. WS food on the left and Rural Hall on the right…. Such a huge difference…Sad…

Food was nasty. Regular order of white fish looked like fist stick nuggets. Not one single fillet in the dish. Popcorn shrimp was good but ice cold. Hush puppies looked horrible and were too tough to chew. The best thing was the baked potatoes, at least they were hot. Extremely disappointing to see how badly they have gone down hill.

Stopped by for dinner today 5/2/22. The food was really good! The cleanliness of the restaurant was very disappointing. The floor was sticky. The tables were sticky like the water they were being clean with needed changing desperately. Our table had to be wiped again while we were sitting down. it was a slow day so they could have closed one side at a time and cleaned. We watched one of older ladies who was a hostess sweep the floor while the rest of the wait staff stayed in the kitchen. We normally tip about 10+. Yesterday was a $5 day. The stars are for the food. The waitress was polite but I would make sure my area was clean so my tips would be good!
