Maya’s Kitchen officially opened for business June 13, reimagining the prime space at 790 Elm Street recently vacated by Queen City Cupcakes. Operated by Maya Gumaa, the concept is simple: Serve up delicious entrees and side dishes to-go featuring the comforting flavors and bold spices found in traditional African and Caribbean cuisines.

I ordered via Door Dash so I can’t comment on the service or atmosphere. However, I can say that what I ordered that night was simply OUTSTANDING! I ordered jerk chicken with spicy rice, collard greens, and a side of samosas. Those were easily the best samosas I’ve ever had! Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The jerk chicken was just right. Omg! I wished I’d gotten two orders of just that. The rice was great and so were the greens. I’m new to NH and this was my first local meal and I can’t wait for the next! ♥️

A friend and I went this evening and found the food to be delightful! It’s a small place, feels like a hole in the wall, but the staff member was incredibly charming and we had a fantastic time, we will definitely be back. I had the jerk chicken, plantain chips, and spicy rice which was all amazing. My friend had the okra beef meal with spicy rice and collard greens which he said were very good. I am recommending this place to everyone I know who can handle some spice!

This was my first time trying Maya’s and I will definitely be returning. The food was amazing!
I got jerk chicken with spicy rice and plantain, as well as a side of samosas (excuse the picture I’d already eaten 2 wings)
The samosas were a victim of the drive home so they weren’t as crispy, but they did have a delightful chew, akin to beignets with the a bit of sweetness which is complimented well by the beef and pea filling.
If you are someone who enjoys spicy food, but also love a developed flavor profile, you have to try the Jerk chicken! No lie one of the best take out meals I’ve had in a while. The food not only smelled phenomenal but the chicken literally fell off the bone; the second it touched my tongue I was met with an explosion of flavor (and pretty intense heat lol). Ironically enough the tomatoes in the spicy rice had a deep sweetness to them that paired really well with the heat of the chicken. And of course I was eating the plantain un between and it was just so good!
All this to say, I really enjoyed the food and from what my husband said the atmosphere was nice and the owner of the restaurant was kind. Let’s support our local businesses especially when the food is this fire (pun intended)

Mostly a takeout spot but there are a couple of tables to eat in. Food is delicious and portions are huge! We loved that the menu was short and sweet. I got the goat meat with sides of spicy rice and Mac n cheese, and my partner got the jerk chicken with collard greens and baked beans. The jerk chicken was quite spicy, while the goat meat was hardly spicy at all. The meat fell off the bone and was super tender for both. Our friends ordered the curry chicken and bbq ribs and those were great too. Great new addition to Elm Street….try this place out!
