[23MAR25] a Filipino lunch today. All of our favorites are available, we were surprised of the bulalo serving as it was HUGE!! Lumpiang sariwa comes in pairs so order wisely. The sizzling tofu has a bigger piece slice than of PH’s and rhe saucer is spicy already. Lumpia shanghai here is pork, i think PH’s is chicken (i maybe wrong). The sides of a whole chicken is not KAMOTE, but POTATO. I checked their menu for bottomless gulaman options and i didn’t see so i skipped my usual drink. Rest room is spacious here. Crew is friendly and all can speak and understand Tagalog.. KABAYAN !!!!!

Tried Max’s for a late lunch—busy, lively atmosphere and clearly a community favorite.
Crispy pork belly kare kare was excellent: great crunch, strong peanut flavor, very filling.
The cockscomb oil dish was interesting but a bit too greasy when paired with the pork belly.
Still, food came fast and service was efficient. Worth visiting if you’re curious about Filipino classics.

The crispy pasta had a decent crunch, though it lacked a standout flavor. Unfortunately, the fresh lumpia ubos was quite mediocre, with a filling that was bland but crunchy. The peanut sauce was good

UPDATE: we visited again and this time it was way better! The Crispy Pork Kare Kare was a standout! And that bagoong? AMAZING! It’s not the typical bagoong that I’ve had before. This is somewhat creamy. Also, the chicharon bulaklak was delicious! Light and crispy! Our server Teejay, did a great job! Will visit again for sure!

We got Chicharron and lumpia shanghai for appetizer. The lumpia was delicious. And we had palabok, pinakbet, chicken adobo for main. Adobo was more vinegary which I like. I enjoyed palabok a lot. I’d like to try halo halo next time. Saturday lunch time we had to wait a bit.

Who ever like the Asian food, You should consider this resturant in your list, I think its Philippino resturant, we had fried chicken, French fries, Pancit, And Bulalo beef bones, It was ok and tasty for some, But for me I didn’t go with Chinese, Japanese and Asian food, Any way it worth try it. free Parking available, Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my account that you will see more resturants and more entertaining places in New Jersey and United States.

Randomly stopped by this place for lunch. And LET ME TELL YOU.

Lately, I have been eating extra healthy and watching my sodium intake. Because of that, I thought the food was a bit on the saltier side, but my friend also confirmed that this is true. However, sisig was extremely tasty and flavorful, I would definitely have beer next to me next time for dinner instead of lunch. Pork was fantastic and perfectly cooked. It literally melted in my mouth.

My ultimate question is, would I come back?

Yes, I would, but not for a while. Overall, 5 stars, but for food, I would give 4 out of 5.

If you like Filipino cuisine or looking to try, then this is a good place to go. We visit here 2 times a year. Parking can be a challenge at this New Jersey location. I am not a fan of Jersey as the cities seem kinda rundown, but Max’s is a bright spot. Good food and they do have beer. Try the Sisig!! Very yummy!! They also offer various soups and dishes of Filipino origin!! Try it out. Located at 687 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey

Like a home cooked meal! Food hit the spot. Everything was delicious. We were making the yummy sounds as we ate. We were a party of four and we shared chicken skin (it was hot and crispy) my daughter loved it over rice. We shared Nilagang baka (beef soup), Sinigang baboy (pork tamarind soup), and lechon kawali (friend pork) over white rice. Please see our photos. The service was outstanding. They made sure our waters were always filled. We asked questions about the menu and they were very kind and helpful. For dessert we shared ube ice cream and turon ala mode. We had left over and took it to go. We were pleased with everything. The bill was about $100 with tip and worth every penny. Will be back for sure.
