Great experience from start to finish. I was seated immediately and my order was taken almost as soon as I sat down. My server Rockwell was great. The pepperoni pizza was delicious. 10/10 would eat again. Overall great restaurant experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Just a quick visit to Reddit and you’ll fast see that this little pizza spot is a hidden gem with a great reputation. But this weekend, we encountered that for ourselves and couldn’t be more thankful we did!

With two hungry and overstimulated kids (from all the lights, sounds and crowds at the Georgia Aquarium across the way) we stumbled through the front doors of Max’s shortly after opening. Kylie, our server, was amazing from the start – helping us get settled, engaging with the kids and answering our litany of questions. The food came fast, and was as delicious as Kylie said it would be. The burrata was crisp, fresh and refreshing. The specialty pie was an explosion of flavor, and the kids loved that we could split a build your own to suit their needs. Kylie was attentive but not over bearing, and her incredible smile and “everyone is a new friend” personality really made it an experience not just a meal.

While Max’s had TVs, the volume was perfect for a break to rest our bodies and regulate our systems. As we enjoyed the light and fluffy crust, authentic richness of fresh herbs and vegetables – and just plain enjoyed our everything about our visit.

This is definitely a tourist to Atlanta must visit spot! And did I mention that it was walking distance to the Aquarium, World of Coke, the Civil Rights Museum, Centennial Park and several great Hyatt hotels?!

Check it out when you next visit Atlanta, you won’t regret it!!

Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria might just be the place where carb dreams go to achieve their full potential. We wandered in around 3 pm on a Saturday, right as the place was warming up for the dinner rush. The vibe is industrial‑cool, like someone converted an old factory into a temple of pizza — which, honestly, feels spiritually correct.

We opened with the garlic flatbread, and let me tell you, it arrived so hot it could’ve doubled as a hand warmer. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully blistered, and gone faster than you can say “don’t judge us, we were hungry.”

Then came the pizzas. I went classic with sausage and pepperoni because sometimes you just want the culinary equivalent of a warm hug. The sausage had that subtle spicy kick — the kind that says, “I’m not here to start drama, but I will keep things interesting.” The pepperoni was the glorious cup‑and‑char variety, crisped around the edges like it had been doing Pilates in the oven.

And the crust? A masterpiece. Crisp on the outside, just enough flop in the middle to show off its flexibility. If crusts had personalities, this one would be the confident friend who always knows where to brunch.

Our server, Nickole, was on point the entire time — drinks topped off, check‑ins at just the right moments, and zero awkward “I’ll just leave this here” energy.

Then the bill arrived. Three pizzas, flatbread, drinks… $58. I had to resist the urge to look around for hidden cameras. In this economy, that’s basically a love letter.

Bottom line: great food, great service, great prices. Max’s is absolutely worth a stop if you’re anywhere within a reasonable radius — or even an unreasonable one.

Funky coal fired pizza place in Atlanta. I had the meatballs, great taste and chew was soft. Very good fresh tasting Marinara sauce. Excellent pizza, I had the Traditional and loved it. Fun service as well!

We got the pepperoni pizza and the garlic flat bread as a starter. I wish the bread had more flavor but it was still really food. The pizza and drinks were great. The wait time was a little longer than expected but with good company, you’ll survive. Staff was nice but busy due to holiday orders.

Everything was so good…. We started with the garlic flatbread, then had a Greek salad (it’s huge by the way), spaghetti and meatballs, and 2 pizzas… a Salumi and Bianca (sauceless) and then finished with with the Italian donuts. Sweet tea was great according to my kids and my adult beverages were on point….

Tonya took such good care of us, even got the TV changed so we could watch the football game we wanted to watch. She was so sweet, helpful and our drinks were never empty. The whole atmosphere of the place was laid back and all the employees seemed happy to be there, even though it was New Year’s Eve.

I wish I had gotten pictures of our food

We had just gotten out of the aquarium and we had an appetite. It was hard to chose between a few options we had already singled out. I wanted to try a nice Korean place with decent reviews and pretty good pictures. There was a bison steak house and a fancy Mexican restaurant on the list also. We axed the Mexican cause that’s all we eat back home, the wife wasn’t feeling the Korean, but then again I just wanted to try their version of wings and Philly, the bison steak house sounded exotic enough but we didn’t want to roll the dice and it was further than the pizza place, so Max’s it was . Service was pretty darn good. They constantly kept up with our drinks and constantly cleaned our table. The ambiance was very chill. Just the right amount of noise to enjoy a lunch. Food was alright. We started off with some wing appetizers. I saw em on another table and they looked glorious. They turned out to have an excellent presentation, good flavor but we’re very cold on the inside. They were fully cooked but cold. So wings were a bust. Then we opted to share a plate. We started with the chicken Parm with spaghetti then decided to go with the shrimp scampi in a garlic butter wine sauce. We subbed the shrimp for chicken though. Price didn’t change. That was actually pretty good. Good portion and flavor but they didnt serve any kind of bread with it. So we order a traditional pizza. First pizza they brought out was burnt to a crisp, they actually asked if we wanted it like that,I thought they had to be joking but they actually asked and we told em no. I would not have thought that they would want to put their name behind that but I guess someone has actually said yes before. So we had them remake our pizza. We ordered the pizza cause it was coal fire cooked and we needed bread with our pasta, which we finished cause the good pizza took a bit. It wasn’t terrible but we probably won’t be back.

After a long day of travel from MA to GA, this was exactly what we needed. Monique (waitress) was amazing… Very attentive and super friendly, made us feel like we were at home with family.

The food was delicious. Pizza was similar to NY style (crispy crust but soft on the inside, very little “flop”), Caesar salad was huge, kids spaghetti was a generous portion size. Everything was delicious, had to start eating before pictures were taken ( ).

Liked it so much we went back again a couple nights later. Highly recommend.

We walked there both times from hotel, so I can’t comment on parking.

Grabbed lunch here before going to the aquarium and college football HOF, and the food was so good! I tried the homemade meatballs and they definitely live up to the hype mentioned in the menu! The pizzas were super crispy with fresh toppings and the staff were very friendly and cheerful. It takes a minute for the food to be ready as it is prepared when ordered, but the wait is definitely worth it. Great place for lunch!

This is a great pizza. Cooked perfectly crispy but still chewy on the inside. Tomato sauce was very fresh. Not too much oil. And decent prices. Very friendly staff!
