Maximo’s new progressive Mexican cuisine focuses on more composed, small and shareable dishes for diners to explore, highlighting ingredients rarely seen on Houston menus like prickly pear tuna, palanqueta and more, all while sprinkling in some global flavors. Still, respecting the authenticity of Mexican ingredients and technique remains paramount. Complementing the food menu is a cocktail overhaul, along with a revamped wine and list from Local Foods Group Wine Director Mark Sayre.

What a welcome surprise. Had moderate expectations that were quickly overcome with great drinks and food. Neighborhood gem. If we lived nearby we would be here several times a week. 😐 The shrimp flauta hands down best thing we ordered…well next to the margaritas which are served in schooner glasses which keeps them the drink colder than ice cold. Great work!

I was lucky to get a last minute reservation for my birthday this past Saturday. I ordered the chef tasting menu with the drink add on and the branzino, I was blown away! The masa in each dish was amazing, I will say the enchilada potozina was my least favorite. The duck was phenomenal, I can’t do it justice. I got to sp ak with the chef and I was delighted to see he had a contagious smile and he touched every dish that came out of that kitchen. I will definitely return, keep doing what your doing! The staff was amazing!

Cute little Mexican restaurant with great service at the bar! The cocktails were good, but the food was the real star. I loved the San Luis Potosí influence, you can really taste the regional authenticity in the dishes. Definitely a spot I’d go back to!

Went here after months of wanting to go, we decided close to Valentine’s day dinner. Nice table, cozy decor, intimate really loved our appetizer- corn ribs with Tajin. I have made something similar at home, and loved the presentation, and it tasted close to what I havevtried, with the perfect tenderness of the nibblets. We had three taco plate and my favorite was the mushroom taco. We also had the Chicken milanesa with spaghetti noodles, and for dessert we got the Tres Leches and took it home. We ate half that same night and had the second half the next night. I havevto say it was 80% better tasting the second night! I think the milk soaking and the coldness of the dessert made it better, with a raspberry glaze. Would like to return for brunch.

I’ve been several times before when it was El Topo and now several times as Maximo. The service and food have not missed a beat. Still quality food with fresh ingredients and flavorful bites. We tried a lot of different plates this trip. Guacamole is always a good starter but we added the corn ribs and brisket molotes de suadero. The brisket was so moist and wrapped up in a fluffy blanket of masa. We moved on to the duck huarache that did not disappoint with the chicharones giving the bit of crunch to add to eat bite. We had to have some tacos as well, the fish was excellent but the brisket just edged it out with incredible flavor. Finished off the mains with the squash blossom “dosa” type pastry that I would like to an enchilada. It was super might and delicious. We had to try the deserts. The banana pudding buñuelo was excellent, but the oaxacan chocolate Sunday was amazing! Captured the authentic flavors perfectly. The tres leches was ok, but the other two outshined it, for me. As always the service was incredibly hospitable and helpful.

We recently visited Maximo and chose the chef’s tasting menu. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience. The service was attentive and professional, and most of the dishes were well prepared and flavorful.
Unfortunately, one course did not sit well with us. The duck had an unpleasant smell, and after that dish, my stomach became upset. This stood out because the rest of the menu and the overall quality were quite good.
Aside from that issue, we appreciated the atmosphere, the care from the staff, and the creativity of the chef’s menu. With a bit more attention to consistency, especially with the duck dish, this could be an excellent dining experience.

Authentic, creative, great value for experience. Every dish is delicious.
The tasting menu itself is an exploration, with cricket and fire ants on the dishes.
Our server Jeff is friendly and a helpful guide on this fun evening.

Excellent service, ambiance and food. We sat at the patio outside, it was perfect and cozy. Our server Soledad was great and friendly. Maximiliano greeted our table and shared information about the restaurant and menu selections. He was exceptionally knowledgable about the restaurant industry. We highly recommend this place and we can’t wait to come back again!!!
