My husband and I were lucky enough to snag a last minute, late-evening Valentine’s Day reservation at Maxie’s, which happened to also be during their week-long Mardi Gras celebration. Needless to say, it was crowded and lively, but our table was waiting for us and we were sat immediately.
Our server was friendly, attentive, and very helpful with our menu choices, which were limited due to their Madi Gras-only offerings, but also plentiful and varied. My husband decided on the jambalaya, I went with the crawfish étouffée, and we split the roasted Cajun cauliflower as an appetizer.
While it’s hard for this kind of stew-like, saucy, veggie/sausage/seafood over rice mixtures to present beautifully, everything looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. The jambalaya had a little more of a kick than I prefer, but my husband loved it and my crawfish étouffée had the perfect amount of spice without being spicy. The roasted cauliflower was cooked to perfection and was the perfect way to start the meal. Not pictured is the bananas foster bread pudding that was the perfect way to end it.
We both left with extra food to take home and the memory of a wonderful meal and great experience.

This was our first time here and the food was delicious!! We ordered NOLA grilled oysters and this is the first place I’ve been where they are actually good as Nola. For entrees we had Amish chicken and the jambalaya ordered without shrimp. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 they serve the cornbread cold fridge cold, with butter butter can’t melt on a cold bread. The biscuit with my hot meal also cold. We ordered the dirty rice cakes and it’s served with bbq sauce I think it should be served with the Cajun mayo they offered. The server was great offer suggestions and answered questions Nora I believe her name was! And the temperature in the restaurant was cold.

I wish I had captured more of the meal. This was our first time and we will definitely go back again. Their happy hour (really two hours 4 – 6) include $2.00 raw, fresh shucked oysters. After getting a taste for them while on Norfolk VA last week, I had to try them here. Yummy. The horseradish is amazing. I’m so so on the vinegar. The cocktail sauce is very good. That said, I only ate one oyster with all three condiments plus lemon on it. The oysters were delicious without the extras.
Now, I had the pulled pork with BBQ Beans. Get ready to get messy. Amazing. Cheryl had the hamburger and she loves it. The sweet potato fries were perfection.
Let’s talk staff.
Emily was our server. Such a sweetheart. The young man who brought our water, very sweet. And, the young man who brought our food very nice.
Then, as you know, I like to tell the manager when I love a place and their staff. Mattie is wonderful. Chatting with him was like chatting with a friend.
Definitely a place we will visit again.

So I was excited about trying Maxie’s for the 1st time. I regret to say I am highly disappointed!!! I’m not sure if it’s because I ordered to go but for the amount of money that was spent I definitely expected better. 1.) The wings were burnt & dry as if they were either refried or cooked in old grease. 2.) The gumbo also tasted scorched bland and had a heavy layer of oil on top. 3.) The greens were tough and tasted really sweet. 4.) The fried chicken was dry and bland. 5.) The seafood bake looked like complete slop & all the seafood inside was overcooked & tough. The only thing was even edible was the bread pudding, Macaroni & cheese and fried green tomatoes & even those items I rate at barely a 4 out of 10. Everything was bland overcooked and down right one of the worse food tasting experiences I’ve ever had. If your use to eating real quality creole style food with flavor please do not waste your time or money.

Good food and service. We had apps mussels, chicken meatballs, and cold shrimp. First two were good, peel and eat shrimp was dull. Kids had good cheeseburgers. Adults had gumbo, jumbalaya, brisket, seared gulf shrimp, shrimp and grits. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The brisket aint no texas brisket, no smoke and no crust. More like a roast than bbq smoked brisket. Good cocktails. Shitty uncomfortable wood chairs with no cushion.

We went to Maxie’s for my partner’s birthday, and it was my first time dining there. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens, everything was phenomenal. The flavors were rich and comforting, and you could tell it was made with care. My partner had the brisket with fries, which was just as impressive.
Daniel was our server, and he truly made the experience exceptional. He was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. You can tell he genuinely cares about his guests. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a trainer or supervisor based on how confidently and professionally he carried himself. He took great care of both of us.
We’ll definitely be back!

Decent spot for happy hour food and drinks! I tried their oysters and fried green tomatoes & the bartender made a great recommendation for a wine pairing. I tried the fried chicken dinner and thought it was solid even with the greens being on the sweeter side. The gravy on the potatoes has a strong flavor of sage or thyme and I didn’t care much for it but it still worked well with everything.
I tried the new raspberry lemon pie and it was a great way to end the meal.
Friendly, prompt service. Clean restaurant. Busy, lively vibe!

We usually hit Maxie’s after attending the Milwaukee Boat Show. This year was just as great as always. Great food. Great atmosphere. Kaylee is one of their newest servers and she was our server. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun for our group. Top notch! We will be back again hopefully before the next boat show.

The atmosphere was nice
The menu was ok.
I spent $40. Red Sangria which was decent. Crab cake, just ONE, which had good flavor and was light. Not too big. I also had fried green tomatoes which were fresh and cooked well
The food was ok. The menu just didn’t have enough options for me. Drink menu also as far as specialty cocktails
