Maxey’s came highly recommended. They have favorable reviews. Unfortunately, this wasn’t our experience. The greeting from the older woman with dark hair, implied we were making her stop working. Argued over a description of a dessert, after I heard the younger employee describe it differently to another customer. She also complained to the younger employee that she would have to rewrap the desserts. It was 20 minutes before closing. We won’t be back.

Dined in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon (party of 2) after hearing about it a few times over the past week. We placed our orders at the counter and the cashier was very pleasant and helpful. I had the double smash burger and bacon and it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the Rachel (swapped coleslaw for sauerkraut) which she enjoyed. Our french fries didn’t appear fresh as they weren’t hot. The indoor seating is kind of limited but all food is packaged to go and they even have premade items.
The store itself is beautifully organized. We walked through and saw a lot of products local to the county and state of Virginia. I’d absolutely return for another lunch and to shop!

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant that cost me $60. The customer service was incredibly poor, and the atmosphere felt unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. We ordered a Ruben that was incredibly dry, a chicken sandwich that was burned, fries that were overly salted and tasted like they were cooked in the same grease as the chicken and some pastries that were all dry and stale.
To make matters worse, we waited 27 minutes before we had to ask about our order, only to find out that it had been sitting in the back the whole time. There were only two other customers in the restaurant, and they had already received their food, so there was no reason for the delay.
Overall, a very frustrating experience that left much to be desired. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We usually love Maxey’s, however today was different. We ordered the special of Chicken Salad melt and waited 25 minutes for our sandwiches . I was waiting in line to ask where our meal was, when food was delivered to someone who had ordered long after we ordered. I asked the server about it and she went to check and came out with our meal. The toasted bread was cold and the cheese was cold so obviously our meals had been sitting in there for some time. We were very disappointed tonight.

A nice little fancy local shop. Nearly nothing is marked with a price so I ended up not getting anything. They had some tasty looking salads and sandwiches that were priced decently and ready to grab. I’ll have to come back another time when my diet isn’t restricting me so much. Tried this place, and haven’t been to Powhatan since it was another business. The store has a lot of charm, reminds me of a real and upscale version of what Cracker Barrel was trying to accomplish but has real applications to it. For example, you can purchase meat, have a sandwich made, or purchase grocery type items. The food was amazing 5/5, atmosphere 5/5 and the staff was amazing 5/5.

Went here for the first time finally. Great atmosphere with people coming and going for lunch. Employees were very friendly and came and cleaned up our trash when we were finished but still sitting and chatting
We had a burger and the roast beef sandwich. Burger was great. The sandwich was a sandwich, but the sweet pepper was a nice touch. We sat on the porch and enjoyed the fall weather.

Kudos !!! Wow !!! First visit here today. Great vibe. Food was great and fresh. Nice variety of specialty items and wines. We had chicken finger, BLT on jalapeño bread and a Rachel. Return? Yes

Visited the store today with a long time friend after helping him move into his recently bought home in Powhatan. After unloading, we ran some errands and lunch was included. He mentioned that while he was in line, he heard other customers raving about the Smash Burger. Unfortunately, he ordered something else. He said that what had was very good but just had to have a Smash Burger. So today we did. It was superb. In addition, I purchased some crab cakes to take home. Living an hour away, the staff provided a properly packaged “ice” bag. The crab cakes were some of the best I’ve ever had, to include Maryland crab cakes. The staff was very personable and very helpful. I will be back for further indulgence. Thank you.
