The Lost Navigators
On our drive from Alabama to Chicago, we decided to stop for food near I-65 in Edinburgh, Indiana, and came across MAX & ERMA’S, a restaurant, bar, and gathering place. Let me just say—it turned out to be one of the best American and mixed cuisine spots I’ve ever been to.

The menu is fantastic—burgers, pulled pork, fish and chips, sandwiches, and plenty of hearty classics, plus an impressive drink list with beers, whiskeys, and cocktails. The desserts are also a highlight, making it a great place whether you want a full meal or just drinks and a sweet treat.

I personally tried the house burger with fries, the famous “Garbage Burger” (which gets its name because it has everything on it—but don’t be fooled, it’s absolutely delicious), a pulled pork sandwich, and fish & chips. Every dish was flavorful, juicy, and filling—exactly what you’d hope for in a comfort food spot like this.

The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and very welcoming. The decor is clean, classic, and gives off that perfect “sit back and relax” vibe. Whether you’re dining solo, with friends, or family, it feels like the kind of place where anyone can enjoy themselves.

The service was also excellent—the staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to have us there.

What makes this place extra special is that it wasn’t just a one-time stop. We first ate here a week ago on the way to Chicago, and it was so good that we made sure to stop again on the way back to Alabama. That alone should tell you how worth it this place is.

If you’re ever near Edinburgh, Indiana, I highly recommend MAX & ERMA’S. Whether you want burgers, sandwiches, fish, or drinks, you won’t be disappointed. This place is a gem, and I know we’ll be stopping here again on future trips.

Phillip was great at the bar. He gave us great recommendations and the food was amazing. The beer was cold! On PoInT. A plus service! Highly recommended. I’m very pleased and will definitely come back.

Food was delicious! Very kind waitress and incredibly patient with us as it was our first time. Garlic Parm Mozzarella is a MUST! Pittsburgh Salad and Dynamic Duo pictured (house salad, half the club also).
I signed up for the app and got 6 cookies for free. (I had a choice of chocolate chip or Macadamia) They are baked fresh so the 12 minute wait for them was welcomed!!!

Hair in my drink that I didn’t see until I drunk it down some. We asked to speak to the manager, and she literally said “Oh it was probably just the servers…” and just stood there looking stupid at my dad and I. We’re from Atlanta just passing through and I’ve heard Indiana can be racist but this was crazy

Grabbed dinner take out with my daughter while staying at a near by hotel. This place is great! Reminds me of the fun vibe of the late 90’s. Food was great, especially the banana cream pie and Cuban sandwich! The bartender was super nice! He looked like he was having a blast with the customers.

Loved my burger with an egg on top! It was cooked perfectly. I got egular tots, nothing fancy but good and crispy. My server was great…polite, friendly and with a smile. Also, nice atmosphere except for the 90’s weird, slow club music playing when most of the guests were elderly when I visited. This is more of a “country music area” and not downtown Indy. I know corporate controls that and the manager/staff can’t do anything about it but it’s a small corporate fail in my opinion. ‍♂️ Being said, I would probably eat there again. Clean place with clean restrooms as well. I enjoyed the meal.

Stopped here on a trip. The service was very friendly. The atmosphere was awesome with plenty of things to look at and decorations. The food was good. Their cookies were excellent. I forgot to take pics of things. But, there were plenty of choices on the menu from burgers, sandwiches, and entrees. It had a friendly atmosphere where some regulars were just having conversations between their tables. It was great.

Max & Erma’s is such an awesome place. I was at this location when I was out of town, and we no longer have Max & Erma’s in my home state. I love the atmosphere – great decor and good music. Staff were all super friendly. And the food was EXCELLENT – probably the best french onion soup I’ve ever had. Great cobb salad, and of course delicious desserts – I got banana cream pie and cookies to go! Would love to come back next time I’m in the area!

Not starting good. I was just asked by the person at front desk that seats guest if I was fine with sitting at the bar. I stated that my son was under age. She said it was fine as long as I was with him. (Which I knew was weird) So we sit and bartender asked if he was 21. I said no. Told us we needed to sit at a table . Total understandable. Went to go trying to find a table and none are clean. Found a table but now have been waiting in 10 minutes with no server! Ok getting
better ! Bartender totally apologized! Almost walked out. Now let’s see how the Hangover burger is. Good . Service could be more attentive. But we’ve had worse!
