Circa-1954 beer and burger joint celebrated for its cheese-stuffed patty, the Jucy Lucy.

The Juicy Lucy was by far, the sluttiest and most scrumptious burger I’ve ever tasted. I asked the man for bacon, he said “nahh, too fancy.” He delivered me this masterpiece served between two buns. It didnt need anything added to it at all. I came all the way from Mississippi to Minnesota and was told this was a staple that I had to try. 100000/10 stars.
& the dueling toilets in the bathroom? Hilarious. Loved every second in this establishment.

The famous juicy lucy! Honest opinion wish it had more taste to it. It tasted very bland, the cheese and the meat. the bun wasn’t even warmed up. I was expecting WAYYYY more in taste for the $10 and some change price. I won’t be back, I’ll try somewhere new for a juicy Lucy next time. The amount of fries is great for $8 and some change.
It was disappointing.

I finally made it to Matt’s bar to check out the “Original” Jucy Lucy. Hamburger was great, as expected. Fries were shoestring and were perfect and delicious. Service was great. I went on a Monday afternoon and we sat down right away and were eating in about 20 minutes.
This really is more of a restaurant now. Because of the food, there is a LOT of turnover and it’s mostly food tourists. Even on a Monday. IDK if the kitchen closes, but maybe it turns more into a bar after that. The signs posted everywhere basically say “Others are waiting to be seated”. While there wasn’t a line when we were there, I’m sure there is when it’s weekend busy.
Good prices. They could be charging much more based on demand.
Lastly, cash only. There is an ATM on site with a $2 charge if you forget.
Great food served fast and great service. Thanks!

Matt’s Bar’s home of the original Jucy Lucy! Be prepared to stand in line for a table it’s slam jammed packed or hit up the bar if open, but it’s well worth it. This was my favorite out of the three places I tried a juicy lucy. I love the atmosphere in this place. It’s a dive, with the feeling that it’s filled with townsfolk who just got done doing whatever they do. I’m not a jucy lucy connoiseur, but Matts has an awesome one best flavors and seasoning out of the three that was the deciding factor for me.The fries are average Frozen out of a bag, they have huge bowl for a descent pricer tho… the service is fine, you’re probably not going to get asked how your week has been, but you’ll get some awesome grub! 100% recommend!

This place is everything that you hear about and more! I have been wanting to go here for over a decade since I heard about it. The fact that they have “The Jucy Lucy” is only part of the charm. I had a expectation about the burgers but I was totally blown away and it far exceeded and expectations I had. The burger it juicy and delicious! The fries are a great addition to the main event but do listen when they tell you to wait a couple of minutes before digging in to the simple and delicious burger. They will pop and you might get some on you, you have been warned I will try to get back before I leave MN and get another Jucy Lucy! Thank you to the staff for everything. You’re the best and loved hearing about the place and your stories

The Juicy Lucy was the best…it was a long line to get inside therestaurant…and we still had to wait another 25 minutes once we ordered…it was worth the wait… the way the cheese runs out the burger when you bite into… the fries were seasoned well. The place is very much the same when they founded the Juicy Lucy it has that 50’s feel.

I’m sorry but I don’t get what the hype is about this place. We heard that this was a must have when visiting Minneapolis so we waited in line to eat here and I was so disappointed. We waited around 30 minutes to get in – which was fine – I don’t mind a wait if it’s popular and busy. But then once we got seated it took around 45 minutes before we got our food. That’s a crazy long wait for a burger.
Then we got the food…the burger was luke warm, small, so bland, and had very little cheese in it. I paid $10.50 for a burger that’s supposed to be an amazing burger and it wasn’t anywhere close.
The waitress was nice enough and friendly but she was the only one working the tables – she was serving and cleaning the tables – and she needed some help.
It’s such a small place and they try to cram as many in as possible and the noise was a lot. And if you’re seated anywhere near the door, be prepared to have people standing over you the whole time you’re there. Rather than have the line start near the door, it comes halfway into the restaurant so it’s just claustrophobic for everyone in that half of the room. I wouldn’t eat here again.

Very simple. Juicy lucy burgers and french fries. Small selection of beers and wine. A great place and service. Bring cash, no plastic accepted.

okay don’t hate me Minnesotans, but I thought the Juicy Lucy was kinda meh.
1) the biased reason is that after eating it I vomited multiple times and as I’m writing this 2 days later I am still recovering from it’s effects. basically it’s just WAY to greasy and oily for its own good. because 2) the way the Juicy Lucy is made, the cheese pocket inside of the patty also collects a BUNCH of grease (that would normally leak out onto the grill in a normal patty) so the cheese ends up being completely mixed with and SOAKED in grease. you can’t even let it drip out either cuz it’s mixed with the cheese. in addition to all that, while it wasn’t a bad burger, it was just very normal. the patty itself wasn’t even juicy, it was just grease filled. a double cheeseburger prolly would’ve been better.
I will say though, the chicken sandwich (not pictured here) was great: very flavorful and juicy, would highly recommend over the Juicy Lucy. also, this place definitely has the best deal on fries, and the 1/2 order of fries is literally the biggest heaping basket of fries I’ve ever seen in my life.

Sat at the bar in this casual, popular hometown-feel establishment. The bartender was super nice and guided us through the Juicy Lucy stuffed burgers, which were thin burgers stuffed with gooey liquefied cheese. A half order of fries is all that is needed for two people. Certainly a different take on the burger to try at least once. Kitschy vintage bar decor Grace the walls including a bar group photo with former President Obama! Can be busy.
