Even on a rainy, foggy evening, Matthew’s was a fabulous venue offering a delicious meal. My husband and I usually try not to order the same dishes so that we can try as many options as possible, and there were so many options that looked amazing! However, we both ended up choosing the New England clam chowder and the linguine and white clam sauce. They were both excellent choices; tasty with succulent clams!

One of the better restaurants on Fire Island. The food is delicious and portion sizes are very generous, even if you have a big appetite like myself, you will not leave hungry.
The Wedge Salad, BBQ Ribs, and Chicken Parmesan are particularly good.

Unfortunately, our experience at Matthew’s Seafood House was disappointing. The prices felt overly high for the quality of food we received. The mussels were overcooked, and the meat was dry and overdone. Most dishes seemed to be made with low-quality ingredients and were poorly executed by the kitchen. The only standout was the lobster bisque — it was actually quite good. Overall, not a place we’d return to, especially given the high prices and inconsistent food quality.

First day, arrived and went to Mathews for a sunset drink, then went back later the folliwing wek and had the fresh shucked clams and fried calamari. delicious.
Mathews is a great local restaurant and seafood market at the end of the town. Great bar and service. Friendly to the 10th degrees. views of the bay and boats are relaxing.

Once things got settled, things were fine. We had come straight in from a nice day exploring the island and looked it, so we did wonder if we dropped to the bottom if the priority pile. Took a bit for a server to attend to us. Outdoor seating was plagued by gnats, but the waitstaff, ince arriving, accommodated moving us.
Can’t complain too much once things got rolling. Food was decent and our server was friendly. Still, thinking back on it now after a couple of weeks, the long wait for a server is what I remember most, unfortunately.

Great place with deck seats. We always coming in big groups and they managing to seat us all together with no problems.
Food is served quickly, unfortunately the menu doesn’t offer wide selection of dishes but everyone can find something to their taste

Absolutely the best lunch I’ve had on Fire Island! The spicy margarita was perfectly balanced – spice, sour, sweet and salt. And, the mussels were sublime with the light but flavorful broth finishing with a hint of licorice provided by caraway seed.
And the staff was professional, friendly and properly attentive!
