Stopped here on the way to Jacumba Hot Springs. It’s kind of the last stop and a great general store with a restaurant. It doesn’t look a lot on the outside, but it’s packed with all kinds of things for shopping for anything you might’ve left behind.

We were met at the door And could smell the food being cooked. Our greeter took us to the back room where we could sit inside and look out the window.

The menu is rather extensive with a wide variety of food. We had the kebab combination and a cheeseburger with fries both were delicious. Sorry for the partial hamburger as I took a few bites before I snapped the picture 🙂

Well, the place doesn’t look like much I would highly recommend stopping in for a great bite to eat and picking up all those extra things you forgot when you left home.

Highly recommend the Mediterranean food and the other options on the menu

We had dinner at this unassuming rustic restaurant in a small sleepy town along a highway. One wouldn’t expect to find kabobs in rural America, and if they did, skepticism would be understandable. However, we were pleasantly surprised by how good the kabobs was. We had the chance to meet the chef, who hails from the region where the food originates, and that explained the exceptional preparation. The chef was accommodating and friendly.

The chicken steak sandwich was a highlight, as it did not disappoint and could easily rival popular steak sandwich chains in the city. The only suggestion I have is to ease up on the salt; the fries were overly salty. Other than that, everything was perfect. From city dwellers like us, the food in this restaurant fares better than expensive restaurants in big cities.

Furthermore, the countryside fresh air added to the charm of the dining experience, making Matthews a memorable stop along Interstate 8.

We stayed at a nearby KOA so we decided to try this. The “restaurant” is basically inside a convenience store. You sit at tables in the back with very loud fans running (no a/c). They don’t serve drinks, you just go grab something out of the cooler (however they won’t tell you that unless you ask for a drink). The food was not good. We got a pizza and a chicken salad. The pizza was bland and the chicken was raw on the inside. We would have sent it back but this is not a typical restaurant where you get waiter service. Once they bring you food you’ll never see them again.

Definitely don’t recommend.

So I walked into this store today and I have never seen a bigger smile in my life. Met the owner, Matthew, and what a great guy. Such a happy person. I bought a couple pizzas to go, very delicious. There’s a large selection of just about everything, from cigars to ice cream, from hard liquor to shelves of candy. It felt very welcoming and the customer service was absolutely wonderful. Will definitely be back for another visit!

This place is great. I met Frank who works there. Very cool and down to earth guy. The food there is amazing. It has a little restaurant. I recommend the turkey sandwich and fries. Every time I swing by i pick up the green lime Gatorade.

We were on road trip, and decided to stop somewhere for dinner on our way home. Chose this place, and I can tell you, it’s amazing! The owner was super friendly, as it was time to close, but he stayed and cooked very delicious chicken kabobs for us. The portions are huge, tasty and absolutely not pricey. In SD a portion two times smaller would cost twice more expensive.
Very cute, clean family restaurant. We loved it!

Of the 3 markets on the same stretch of Old Hwy 80, I always pick Mathew’s. Cleanest, freshest product, cold variety of drinks both alcoholic and non. Plenty of munchies and the kitchen is open if your craving something bigger. I’ve had a few pizzas that were pretty good. Atmosphere received a 3 only because of the patrons who cant read the “no parking” signs and park in the fire-lane in front of the entrance. That can be a little irritating. Especially when all it takes is a simple right hand turn & theyld be in the parking stalls. But thats not his fault so I still gave him the full 5 overall.

The best food I’ve ever ordered at a convenience store. The hot wings are perfect, the gyro crispy and delicious. The club sandwich was the biggest I’ve ever seen
