Matsuyoi easily ranks as the best omakase experiences my partner and I have ever had. Beyond the incredible freshness and flavor of every course, what really sets this place apart is the attention to detail at every touchpoint of the guest experience.

From the personalized welcome card to the intimate setting, the perfectly curated playlist, and the thoughtful gift at the end — everything feels intentional and beautifully executed. The chefs and staff are engaging, fun, and make you feel like you’re part of something special rather than just dining at a restaurant.

We also did the wine pairing and every dish was mouthwatering to say the LEAST. The creativity of each bit, from the rolls to the soup to dessert and everything in between, made for a dining experience that had us anticipating what was next, but also savoring every moment and not wanting that course to end.

We got to chat with our seat neighbors and truly had a wonderful time. Very different from a traditional Omakase experience in that regard as well. The speakeasy type setup also made it feel exclusive and like a premium experience. It just felt sexy and fun!

If I lived in Miami, I’d come here a hundred times over. For now, it’s firmly on our must-visit list every time we’re back in the city. Truly unforgettable.

Perched right above Nami Nori in the Design District sits Matsuyoi, the latest jewel from Chef Takahiro Sakaeda. Think of it as an intimate escape: a sleek cocktail lounge leading into a hidden 10-seat chef’s counter, where the spotlight shines on a seasonally shifting, multi-course menu built around Nami Nori’s beloved open-style temaki.

Here, the details make the difference. Nori is toasted to order, wasabi is grated fresh, and each roll features premium ingredients that make you want to linger with every bite.

If you’re timing your visit with Miami Spice, expect a three-course lineup that’s both refined and playful: a Matsuyoi Caesar with bottarga and hallabong vinegar, a rich A5 American Wagyu Sukiyaki as the main event, and a Tropical Sundae finale layered with Hokkaido milk ice cream and hojicha “pocky.”

Of course, there are ways to dial things up even further. Splurge on the toro-caviar temaki, sip through a sake and wine pairing, or explore the cocktail list that balances Japanese ingredients with polished precision.

Matsuyoi isn’t just dinner—it’s a perfectly tucked-away moment of Japanese indulgence in the heart of Miami’s Design District.

Matsuyoi provided one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had, combining exceptional service with an unforgettable culinary journey. The intimate 10-seat chef’s counter allowed for a front-row view of Chef Taka Sakaeda’s artistry, with each dish showcasing a perfect balance of tradition and innovation. Standouts included the luxurious Toro Caviar temaki and the delicate Potato Pavé with caviar and ao nori, each bursting with unique flavors and textures. The service was impeccable, embodying true Japanese hospitality. With a thoughtfully curated cocktail and sake selection to complement the meal, Matsuyoi is a must-visit for anyone seeking an extraordinary Japanese dining experience in Miami.
