Matsuyama was established in 2012 but recently sold both dine-in locations due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and is now doing take-out only. Matsuyama is chef-owned and operated with more than 25 yrs of experience in Japanese culinary industry. Our take-out facility is commercial and equipped with NSF approved equipment and does need city approval and health inspections required just like a full service restaurant, the only difference is there is no dine-in seating. No joke eat here all the time, this is our go to sushi spot! Fish is SO fresh, order comes in a timely manner, and sometimes they pack some goodies in the sashimi.
Can’t really speak to atmosphere with it being a ghost kitchen but I hope they someday can have a lil restaurant ❤️
Popcorn shrimp role is insane, love that torched flavor The sakekawa and negihama roll are tasty. Their sashimi is delicious and tender. Honestly can’t go wrong. Thanks for all you do, keep cookin please!!

I’m not sure if the sushi chef is out sick or someone was learning sushi but I’m confused and disappointed this evening. The avocado roll was poorly made (uneven rice, loosely rolled & uneven cuts). No biggie. However, the vegetable tempura rolls – ngl my mouth did gape open when I opened the container.
First thing I noticed is what is supposed to be avocado slices across the top of the roll was a teeny tiny amount of MASHED avocado, including finger press points. The roll was missing carrot and sweet potato, the bottom 1/3 of the roll was soaked in a sauce I’d never gotten before and 2 mysterious blobs of green onion smushed into 2 spots. It didn’t at all taste like the roll should, and has the last two prior times I’ve ordered it, surely due to missing carrot, missing sweet potato, minuscule avocado and soggy from sauce. Also, the surprise green onion and sauce is not okay.
If I had received these rolls this way my first order I’d never have ordered from here again. I worked in a Japanese sushi bar for years and I’m really stunned someone felt it was okay to send this out. The California rolls were fine and look like they were definitely made by someone else. It was absolutely unacceptable to send out the veg tempura rolls the way they did.

The sushi here is pretty bad. The salmon tasted fresh but it wasnt that good. The smelt roe was nasty. The tuna seemed to have spines.

I order door dash from them often and have always been happy with the food. I have closer places to my house but I like to order from here because it just tastes better for some reason! Nigiri is my favorite. Very fresh and a good portion.

Ordered from DoorDash. Sushi and handrolls were extremely sour! Way too much vinegar. I suspect that the fish is not fresh enough so they add extra vinegar to cover it up!

I’m floored by the quality of fish from Matsuyama. It’s always so fresh which inspires me to come again and try either something new or my usual crowd pleaser. The sakekawa, negihama are solid simple rolls. Their sashimi combos always are so fresh and delicious. The popcorn shrimp, geisha, matsuyama special and Tokyo rolls are all solid. We always order from the food hall and pick up before heading home and it’s always a good experience. Thanks for all the amazing meals and being the best take out sushi in Oakland!

Some of the best delivery I have ever had. The seared tuna special (essentially tuna tataki) is FAR better than the versions I’ve had from Kansai, Izza, and Koryo – no hate to them, I’ll still order there, but Matsuyama took it to another level. The Maui roll was so delicious and a great portion. I will say the chicken karaage is the least like any I’ve ever had, so kind of a miss but not bad by any means. I’ll definitely order from here again!

The Longfellow Food Hall (or Food Pickup) is a new (2021) Cloud Kitchen food prep facility at 5333 Adeline in North Oakland. I have been there, and picked up my own orders. It has a parking lot across the street, but I can always find a spot near the lobby. Pickup is easy right now, as there’s only around 10 ghost kitchens inside. Some are great, some not too good.

The service is incredibly, and I mean *incredibly* slow. I ordered from them when their delivery estimate is 20-35 min and instead got my order pushed back again and again until an hour and a half later I relented and cancelled. I would highly discourage ordering from these folks if you want your food in a reasonable amount of time.
