We got the nabe for dinner and they were amazing. I got the buta nabe which has really flavorful broth and my partner got the mille fuille one which is milder in flavor but has a really nice freshness to it and pairs really well with the dipping sauce. The portion is generous! You can technically share 2 nabes for 3 people (or 1 nabe and 1 smaller dish). We also got the croquettes which taste great too!

Recently visited the restaurant and the food was amazing! We got appetizers that were both good and two entrees — the nagasaki (seafood) udon and the curry udon. Both were amazing but the nagasaki udon was so unique and a most try.

Matsunaga is so simple and clean and delicious. Truly well done food. The Udon is bouncy and smooth, the tempura shrimp are perfect, the meat is tasty, and everyone is kind.

The menu does not enlighten the uninformed as to what is on each dish – be ready to ask questions or point at a photo from this review site to say what you want to order. These are basic dishes in Japanese cuisine, so many people just know what comes in them.

I’m so thankful I found this little spot- truly comforting and delightful.

The food was delicious and the service was wonderful at Matsunaga. We got the sukiyaki and katsudon. The gyoza was also a highlight. Highly recommend and will be back!

Good udon is hard to find around Seattle. Most of the time it feels like an afterthought in most Japanese restaurants here. This place has the closest udon I’ve had compared to the restaurants I’ve visited in Japan. The udon broth is flavorful and the noodles have a nice springy texture that all good udon should have. Prices are reasonable. The restaurant is family run and very kind. Definitely will keep coming back.

The service here was great and the food was delicious. Everything was light in flavor, but also really filling. We got the agadashi tofu, eel donburi, and mille feuille nabe. Will return to try the udon.

I had a great experience here! It is family run and the man taking our order was so sweet. I ordered the gyoza, which had delicious flavor. The food was presented beautifully. I also got the Oden Udon, which was amazing- so comforting, and the broth was so clear and flavorful. It felt like traditional Japanese food, and I would definitely come back again!

A gem of a restaurant! Focused on serving comfort food with warm hospitality to go along with it.
We had beef nabe udon, buta nabe, agedashi dofu and a side of shrimp tempura. The presentation of all the dishes were perfect and the broths were amazing. Shrimp tempura was of generous portions and tasted great.
We took leftover buta nabe home which made perfect base for “ojiya”.

This is a small restaurant with a small family crew running it and the expectation for your experience should take that into consideration

So glad I found this place! My family and I were trying to find a place to go have dinner tonight and this place popped up in my Google search. We decided to give it a try and I am so glad we did. The food and atmosphere bought me back to the time when I lived in Japan.

If you have ever been to Japan, the inside of this restaurant is very reminiscent of a typical “mom and pop” restaurant found in Japan.

The food is delicious and the portion sizes are good. My family left very stuffed!

Their menu is one page and focuses on certain specific Japanese dishes such as nabe (similar to hot pot), udon (thick noodles), and donburi (rice bowls),

If you are in the mood for traditional authentic Japanese food, this is the place to go! Trust me, you’ll leave full and will not be disappointed! I’ll definitely be back!
