Almost everytime I visit here, they have customers they are waiting on, and I can see why! Great Portuguese options on pastry and breads. Delicious food and it is always fresh! The staff is always attentive and ready to serve you. I recommend a breakfast sandwich for sure! But everything I have had here is amazing

Absolutely the best baked goods I’ve ever purchased for work. I do craft services for films and I was working on Hocus Pocus in providence. We first used Matos for thanksgiving pies. Absolutely delicious apple and pumpkin pies individually wrapped at an amazing price. Because they were so great the first time we continued business with them for three more purchases. The empanadas are my favorite! Every time the order was correct and on time. The birthday cake was the most beautiful creation. Do yourself a favor and go to Matos!

I was looking for cupcakes for a gender reveal (spoiler alert: it’s a boy!). The staff here made the cupcakes for me impromptu. I was so appreciative. The cupcakes were PERFECT!!! And delicious!! This was my first time here but I will definitely be going back to try all the amazing looking pastries and other goodies!

The deserts are a hit or miss some days, gotten cannolis that had a dash of filling to cover the openings but nothing inside. Cakes can be dry, they leave food out in the open uncover lot but I think they started changing that and wrapping stuff up. Egg sandwiches are good, workers are nice but the owner is not really.

I felt very unwelcomed at this store. The lady who served me didn’t respond in Portuguese even though she could. I was born and raised in Portugal and speak Portuguese fluently. I reside in Hawaii where Portuguese descendants can’t speak the language; however, I was quite surprised to find that those who work and sell Portuguese products in Rhode Island avoid speaking in their first language as if they are ashamed. It’s very sad! I won’t be going to anymore portuguese establishments in this area.

I am giving a 2 stars until she changed her attitude.
I am a Portuguese and loved Azores/Portugal foods. I went to Matos Bakery sometimes and noticed that a lady with blonde short hair.. due to her age… Maybe a mother or grandma.
I went there another time and saw a black lady there. She was very friendly and smiled but this woman with blonde short hair.. Wow. Not friendly.
Anyway, she is not friendly. Always frown and I came and say hi before I order something. She say yeah may I help you ? (with frown). Not very friendly. I watched people came in and order stuff from her. People was stupid and didnt care. They should say something to this disgusting old lady. Very rude. She never greet with smiled and friendly with anybody. Very snob person. She needs to change her attitude. Not friendly. Very embarrassment.
I will keep come and buy stuff but I will keep telling anybody what kind person she was. She needs to be friendly and warm with everyone. COME ON! Be friendly! That is unacceptable attitude and didnt say hi and not friendly with anybody. Be friendly, please ?
EDIT: Portuguese cheese taste awful. And so disgusting. Overpowered and taste wasnt good. Not Azores authentic at all. Thumb down. Will never buy the cheese there. Go somewhere else for better Portuguese cheese.
