I LOVED…LOVED this place. This is in the neighborhood. A good Jewish deli. Lou and Heather always took care of the customers, even when my skinny ass rode my trek bike there on Saturdays when I was like 13. They didnt pull that crap most places used to. Anyways, my go to were a pastrami reuben, a pastrami hot sandwhich or a Paul’s best. Modified….lou sadly died recently. But business kept going. When the new owners took over, all I got from the 8 times I’ve been since, wrong sandwhich….and not just the wrong sandwhich, what I got want even on menu. And when I got the right one..IF I got the right one I was left with the fat and grizzle of the brisket. Every….single….time. the price went up from 10.99 to 16.00 in just over 3yrs, and the quality went down from great to crap in 1.

overflowing with meat and a small amount of kraut. I figured this would make up for their RIDICULOUSLY HIGH PRICES. As you can see that’s not the case. Go to Bread Basket instead.
Update – as far as the actual taste of the sandwich. Extremely disappointed. Krauts not sour. The bread isn’t even real rye and the meat is so so.

Since the owner passed and the son sold, the corned beef tastes different. I am not sure if they changed suppliers or their cooking method, but it’s definitely tough to eat compared to the previous. The meat does not seem to stack up as high as it used to either. Had a co worker order a tuna sandwich (we have been coming here for 25 years) and it was like a baby sandwich compared to previous. I am thinking things need to go back to how they were. Portions and suppliers.

First day Sandwich Week 2023 Dearborn’s number one Deli for three decades. We lost the owner Lou such a great guy Rip my friend, the kids now run the place. They introduced a new Italian Sub Wowed outstanding Delicious . I brought my own Olive Salad they made me a Muffuleta how cool . She had the Famous Grilled Rueban and Broccoli Cheese Soup . I always get a Potato Knish with marvelous Gravy, hurry they sell out every day. West Dearborn a must visit in a 1930’s retro gas station will Wow you. A true Deli-aficionado must try! Mati’s has old-school offerings that not many places do.. the beef was some of the most flavorful i’ve ever! Had in a deli sandwich- the quality n taste stands out!! I love the building was well with the old ny subway tiles and large block-glass windows allowing tons of light into the small deli.
