Came here for Valentine’s Day (second year in a row), and it did not disappoint. I honestly came back because of how much I loved the experience last year, not just the food.
The Mexican pizza is my favorite. I thought it was going to be super spicy, but it was actually the perfect level of heat. So flavorful, so good. The pasta, papas bravas, and wine were also amazing.
What really makes this place stand out is the atmosphere. They had live music, candles everywhere, and rose petals on the floor. It felt romantic without being over-the-top.
Service was smooth all night. We were seated quickly, the staff was friendly and attentive, and everything came out at the right time. It’s the kind of place you go to when you want great food and a special experience. Definitely coming back again.

Such a shame, was excited to try this establishment, but ZERO customer service especially since there was minimal customers, and our server turned out to be the manager, when I asked he said it was him, so no point in mentioning anything to him. We were a party of 5 and never received one of our orders (a pizza) we waited an hour and a half for it with no update, and was given a thrown together kids meal plain Alfredo pasta, instead and not what was offered (a chicken Alfredo adult plate). Never returned to give any water or refills, we didn’t even get napkins, missing silverware, we asked for them and it seemed it was a bother to ask for the basics, we had to pick up food on the way home since 2 people in our party didn’t have their food, but at least the chicken Alfredo that our son did order and receive was good! Could be a great place, needs better management and customer service.

This is my second time visiting La Matilda and will definitely keep going back when craving Italian. Food was served hot and portions are perfect in my opinion. Ordered 3 different dishes to share between 3 and even got to take a little home. Our waiter also went above and beyond in regards to service and helped us recommending an appetizer that he mentioned was new on the menu. Fine dine experience with excellent service and atmosphere.

The food was great. Good portions and decent options.
However to be considered fine dining, this restaurant left much to be desired in terms of service. In our experience dinning at fine-dinning restaurants, I have the following observations. (For reference, we were a party of 20 celebrating a wedding).
To start off, the bar was not fully set up by the time the guest started to arrive. This left guest waiting for some time to receive their pre-dinner drinks.
Second, the coca-cola was served out of bottles that still had the manufacturer stickers on it. The drinks should’ve been served in glass cups to appear more aesthetic.
Third, the order taking process was taken out of order. This left the server confused as to who had already ordered and who did not.
Fourth, the appetizers were brought out at the same time as some of our entrees after taking some time from being ordered.
Fifth, the orders were wrong and given to the wrong person(s). Not only that, but they were handed off auction style. This is not on par with fine dinning. (I suggest pivot seating order taking and handoff).
Sixth, some cutlery was dirty and had to be replaced. The plating used when presenting the food was not consistent which left more people confused as to what their meals would look like when others who ordered the same thing were getting theirs.
Seventh, in fine dinning, the servers make it a point to box off unfinished meals. This did not happen at our table and we were handed to go boxes instead.
Eight, some people had already finished eating and were ready to leave before others had even received their entree.
Lastly, the meals were auctioned off in Spanish while having English only speaking guests who were not familiar with terminology in Spanish. (They were going off based on the English menu and got confused when things were being mentioned in Spanish).
It is worth noting, none of the entrees were modified in any way and none of the guests complained about all the issues outright. However, our party included people from other states and we wanted our choice of restaurant to leave them with a good impression of Brownsville in an upscale setting. Also worth noting, there was another party of (about 20) teens celebrating a birthday in the main dinning floor which could have attributed to the long wait and incorrect orders being brought out.
Overall, Matildas is good but they may need to update their service standards. I do recommend for parties of 2-4 people though.

From the moment we stepped inside, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and promptly arranged a table for our group of thirteen. Despite the busy atmosphere, we were served drinks while waiting, which was a fantastic start to the evening.
The service throughout our meal was outstanding. Our server was attentive and genuinely eager to ensure we had a great experience. He made excellent recommendations, and our drinks arrived quickly, setting the stage for our appetizers.
The food at Matilda’s was truly exceptional. Each dish was generous in portion and beautifully presented.

We went to Matilda’s for a much-needed girls’ night, and it was such a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting—perfect for a night out to relax and catch up. The drinks were amazing, the food was delicious, and everything came out fresh and beautifully presented.
A special shoutout to our waiter, Ricardo, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. He was attentive, friendly, and made us feel completely taken care of.

Super impressed with this place. First time coming here and I can’t wait to celebrate or just eat here again. Delicious food. The service is top notch. Pricey but worth every dollar. Everyone was so attentive and friendly. Great environment for birthday celebration. Overall I’d give this place a 10star rating if i could.
