My food was great. I got the PENNE & VODKA SAUCE W/ PANCETTA, and my girlfriends was not and she got the fettuccine Alfredo. The Alfredo was rubbery, and had like a chemically dirt kind of taste? She couldn’t eat it at all. I love matera and I’m not sure what’s going on today. Service was a 10/10, everyone was very nice. The setting is 1000/10. It is just cozy. The food definitely could have been better but I’m looking forward to trying something new again next time!

This place made the best Italian food aside from going to Italy! The Roma pizza is perfection! The real caprise salad was delightful. The best tiramisu I’ve ever had. Great service, beautiful sitting area. Even a bar! It was one of the best times my family and I ate together!

We’ve had several wonderful experiences at Materra Grill over the last month and a half, and it has quickly become a favorite. Caroline and Rae Ann are an incredible behind the bar—easily the most hospitable and talented mixologists we’ve encountered. They crafted outstanding cocktails, including a perfectly balanced old fashioned and a flavored martini made with vanilla and caramel vodkas and a white chocolate liqueur. Every drink felt thoughtfully created, not rushed.
While I didn’t have the opportunity to meet the chef, the kitchen absolutely delivered. They graciously allowed me to go a little rogue on the menu and created the most amazing sautéed scallops to complement their filet—an unforgettable combination. The salads are huge, fresh, and delicious, made with a spring mix that really stands out.
My husband raves about the prime rib every time, and the seared ahi tuna appetizer is an absolute must-order.
If you’re in the area, you have to check out Materra Grill—fantastic food, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps you coming back.

I dined at Matera Grill in the Magnuson Grand Pioneer Inn and Suites on a Sunday evening in October. I was seated right away and given water and delicious “dinner rolls” with herb butter immediately. It was sooooo good!
When the garlic butter grilled halibut (with two sides of my choice!) arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the portion size – just perfect! I chose the twice baked potato and vegetable medley. All of my food was well seasoned and delicious!
Although I dined until well after the restaurant had closed for the evening, I wasn’t rushed by the staff.
My server was very helpful and attentive – checking back with me just enough to make me feel she cared.
I recommend Matera Grill for dinner (probably any evening!).

Forgot the restaurant we were going to closed at 8. Had to look elsewhere. Heard ok things from a coworker about this place. After looking at the menu which is kind of limited and not exactly cheap I ordered the seafood trio entree. She said it comes on a small plate. She was correct it was it was an appetizer size plate. 2 shrimps 1-2 scallops and 3 little asparagus spears floating in some yellow sauce. It was tasty what there was of it for 19 bucks I expected more. If I wanted a side with that an extra 5 or 6 bucks I think. I said no thanks. My daughter ordered a sandwich that came with fries for the same price a huge plate full she couldn’t eat it all. It’s a small place inside a hotel. The front door is not clearly marked. We came in at the bar and had to walk all the way across the dining room to get the hostess. Not well thought out. They are open later so that’s a plus. I should have just got a TV dinner at the grocery store and microwaved it at home. It would have taken the same time.,( and the restaurant wasn’t even half full). It would have been a lot cheaper. For 56 dollars with the tip I don’t see it as a deal. We had no drinks just water.

We visited the restaurant on Friday October 2, 2025 and the waiter/bartender Dominick was amazing, he was very busy, but had a smile on his face the entire time and service was great! We also had a great dinner on Friday, October 3, 2025 and the waitress Alexa was amazing as well, great service with a smile!! One of the Chefs even came out and asked us how our meal was!! If in Escanaba, Michigan, I highly recommend this restaurant; which is also attached to the Magnuson Grand Pioneer Inn and Suites!!

Best Chicken Marsala my wife has ever eaten!!! My Chicken Parm was also incredibly delicious, and we both received huge portions! Definitely enough for another meal! It was our first time eating there, but it surely won’t be our last!! We both highly recommend Matera to everyone! ♥♥

We had a lovely meal here after another day of riding. The staff were very friendly and accommodated my husband’s onion and garlic allergy with their made to order Alfredo sauce. The blackened salmon was delicious. The gin and tonics went down a treat!

As an Italian, I enjoy trying out new restaurants. Chicken Marsala was so disappointing that dog food would be tastier. Girlfriend had the Shrimp Alfredo, she wondered if they put glue in the sauce. As I made a remark about my opinion about my dish, my server dared to school this Italian about Italian cooking. This place is overpriced for not serving true Italian food. What a shame.
