Finally, a good Colombian spot and this one also serves delicious Peruvian food. Portions are great but more importantly the food actually tastes amazing!
Must try! Will be coming back. Great addition to the downtown area and in my opinion, it’s the best restaurant Cranford has to offer when it comes to food.
Side note, the empanadas are the crispiest I have ever had and they make them per order so they’re always fresh!

10/10 would recommend bringing friends or families to enjoy these enriching peruvian meals! They are also very versatile with language (English/Spanish)! Please pay a visit if you are looking for a restaurant to eat and enjoy yourself in.

Chicken soup is terrible. Has no flavor and it was exactly like a chicken soup you can get at ShopRite. As a Latin American when you order chicken soup, you’re expecting lots of vegetables and some flavor, not just 2 peas and some tiny pieces of carrot. This was so overpriced and not worth it at all.

Love this place! Mateo’s Bakery and Restaurant has amazing food and the best fresh-baked bread. The staff is super friendly, and the atmosphere feels cozy and welcoming. Definitely one of my favorite spots in town!

We had an excellent and authentic tasting menu! Food was piping hot, all the tastes were authentic and as I think it ought to be, and had a number of imported drinks to go along with it. The spot was BYOB which we look forward to taking advantage of on our next visit! Great find, and great service too.

Randomly stopped in to check it out bc I thought it was a bakery – but it’s actually a restaurant too?! Tried a few pastries including their pan de bono (Omgg prob the best one I’ve had in a while, deff the best in the area!!) Staff is very friendly & humble, prices are affordable. So glad to have more diverse food options in downtown Cranford. 100% will be coming back for a sit-down meal & will update my review.

I ordered takeout on 1/27/2026. I ordered and paid for q order of chaufa with steak and shrimp. I paid what they asked and when I got home I found out they only gave me rice with an egg on top. Throughout the entire dish there were 3 shrimp and about 4 small chunks of steak the size of a quarter.
This is so disappointing I hope when you order to eat at the restaurant they serve you better then this.
Maybe because we ordered food to go they thought it would be fine to do this.
We also ordered extra green sauce and asked for a large container and they said they only do the tiny containers. Which is fine we ask for extra. At this place two tiny containers come with the meal and any extra tiny container costs 1 dollar. We got 3 extra for 5 total. They filled each very tiny container only half way with green sauce. They could not even fill up the containers.
After a long day at work to come home with this disappointment really stinks.
Imagine if I decided to only pay half the amount that would never be okay

Food was top shelf… authentic, probably, but what do I know, it was definitely delicious!!! Lunch menu was sparse, but the special they offered (grilled chicken or beef, two sides, soup) was very good. Beef Soup was amazing. Big menu with breakfast and dinner options. Liked it a lot, give it a try!

I had a fantastic experience at Mateo’s! The food was absolutely delicious—everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. There’s a great variety of options from Colombian and Peruvian specialities, so there’s something for everyone. The fact that it’s BYOB is a nice bonus, and the service was warm and attentive. I’ll definitely be coming back!
