2 thumbs!
Last weekend as we went out someone told us about this little gem. Having trafficked through here many times one would never. Know it’s there since it looks like a Latin sandwich shop from the outside.
Walking in the place does not look like much with a few tables to the right, a few snacks for sale to the left and a few knocked keeping a watchful eye by the front door.
A small menu on a board by the cash register and a quirky fellow who looks like he lives there.
Quirky though he was the service was excellent. Very insightful onto the food and although he didn’t sell it the smell sold it.
Shirt of nothing the taste was amazing. I had lechón (pork) belly and rice and the person I was with had beef soup that reminded me of my grandma’s beef soup. The boba amazing as well and the price? Definitely worth it.
I give this a big 2 thumbs up. If you’re in the area or just in town stop by and try this philipino diamond mine!!

Mateo Kitchen & Catering is a true culinary gem. I ordered the Tapsilog (Tapa, Sinangag, Itlog) and with the very first bite, I wasn’t just eating a meal—I was transported. The perfectly marinated tapa, tender and savory, paired with the buttery, garlic-infused fried rice, was an absolute revelation. And the fried egg, with its golden, runny yolk, brought everything together in a way that can only be described as pure comfort. Eating this dish wasn’t just delicious; it was a warm, vibrant taste of a place I’ve never been. It made me want to book a flight to the Philippines just to experience more of this incredible food and culture. If you want a dish that will feed your stomach and inspire your soul, the Tapsilog at Mateo’s is a must-try.

Had always wanted to try Mateo Kitchen since it is the only Filipino restaurant around and was finally able to make it out there. We started with the tteokbkki and we couldn’t finish with how many there were! It was something new to try and I’m so glad I did, I will definitely be getting it again. I got the pancit malabon and it was juuuuust right. The noodles were thinner than what I thought, but with how many toppings there were I’m glad they were thin otherwise it would’ve been too much. Friend got the beef stew…that didn’t look like traditional stew?¿?¿ but she said it was phenomenal nonetheless. She also had the milk free honeydew boba tea that I’m jealous I didn’t get. I just love those lil boba pearls! I love that Siouxland has this restaurant to showcase the diversity we have. Can’t recommend it enough!

Use to be good, they change a few things like the Halo Halo, pay a lot for mostly milk, they change the cup and design, and prices went up. Use to love the food. I hate to leave this review, but have to let people know what change. Don’t know if we will ever come back.

Our food was bland. Our waiter was not friendly. We got our drinks after we got all our food. We didn’t eat much but we did take it home with us, then added spices to make it taste better.
