One of the best experiences in Durham! Amazing service and atmosphere. Lowkey and very delicious. Mateo’s has an eclectic menu but an amazing chef that’ll put you into a food coma off tapas. Great date spot!

Great laidback atmosphere with the menu being mostly small plates. There are a couple larger plates for 3+ people to share as well. Can be a little loud due to high ceilings but over all a great place to share a meal with friends or a date.
Flavors are all well balanced and the service was great!

OMG seriously…. The food here was Ahhhhmmaaazzzinngggg!!! Our waitress Kate was so awesome. The vibes were so chill and I love the fact that you could order so much and share and just in case you didn’t like it, it was small, but I loved everything I ordered!! Again, if my stomach had more room, I would have had so much more, but it gives me a reason to come back again and again to hopefully try the whole menu. The prices were reasonable too. So awesome!! My wife and I loved this place! Food was so good!! Plates are small but that information is stated upfront. Drinks were unique and enjoyable. Atmosphere was comfortable. We ate in the upstairs area.

one of my favourite restaurants in durham
the paella, bone marrow, pate, and queso frito are excellent.
on weekdays, walk ins would usually work if you go early, though it’s best to make a reservation on weekends/ fridays
service is fine
also they usually don’t accept apple pay

Over priced food compared to the environment. The chairs need to repair honestly. The falling pieces are all over my shirt. They charge $3/person for cutting the cake, and turns out to be ugly crappy cakes. Barely no service and 20% tips added.

Update 3/4/26: still so great! Love coming here and always enjoy the food. Our server, M, was really kind today!
This is my third time, and my wife’s and my second time in the last year. Fantastic restaurant with a great atmosphere, and so many delicious options. Today we celebrated our seventh anniversary, and our waiter even threw in a little something special, which we really appreciated!
While we didn’t get it this time, I think the best dessert is the apple pie. We also really liked the pork belly, but you really can’t go wrong with anything… Except for the chicken croquettes, that one we did not like ha.

Stopped by this place on sat night, thank goodness we had a reservation cause the place was packed. It is kind of an interesting place, with a huge bar and upscale food presentation. Having the bar meant there was a long list of drink options, including beer and wine. Overall, I thought the food was ok as nothing really wowed me. We had an awesome waiter, though, very attentive and social. With a carafe of sangria, 2 deviled eggs, and a few meal options, we finished with over $100 bill. It was an experience, it just fell short of my expectations.

Revisiting this place was long overdue. I don’t think there was anything we disliked in the 2 hours we spent at this wonderful place. Wine selection was great and the cocktails didn’t disappoint. The tapas were exceptional and the paella was as you would expect. Meat and cheese selections were limited but didn’t disappoint. Service was spot on. We love this place. Dine in, take out, it’s just awesome.
