An eclectic and fascinating environment with great food, superb cocktails, and talented service.

There are lots of menu selections that would please the Mexican food lover on all levels, from common to near gourmet.

Our server, Anna, did a perfect job of juggling our orders of six diners expertly.

Upstairs, the Whiskey Hotel, looks like a good watering hole, but is open (presently) open only on Fridays and Saturdays. We’ll come back to check it out.

Happy Hour lasts until 6:00 PM and you can get those tasty Tequila cocktails and small plates at a good price.

Worth a visit or two. Recommended, y’all.

We had a wonderful night here. The ambiance was 10/10, the food was great (we had the quesadillas and some steak/rice), the salsa was amazing and it was just an amazing experience all the way around. Would 100% come back!

This is one of definitely a unique culinary experience that made me feel like I was back home in the southwest.

FOOD> I was craving a bowl of Mexican sopa de pollo and fancy myself a connoisseur of the Upstate offerings, but THIS was a unique Tex Mex spin!
It was almost as if pozole and Tex Mex married and bore the most dilectible culinary creation The meal began with warm chips and some delicious fresh salsa authentica. Then came the sopa! The roasted chicken and fire roasted corn swam in a rich broth that had some very pleasant heat that rose from the back of the flavor combination.
The irresistible sopa was topped off with a fresh avocado cilantro, fried tortilla strips, and a sprinkle of cotija cheese which added a creamy cooling effect and perfectly balanced the other ingredients.

SERVICE> Anna was a dream and the entire dining experience was absolutely amazing from the warm reception to genuine care during our lunch and feeling like I had known Anna forever.
Everyone was so friendly and working hard to give me better than expected service.

ATMOSPHERE> Gorgeous and well appointed warm rustic southwestern decor with rich wood, iron, and leather along with some bold touches of color from cinco de mayo art work.

LOCATION> This heart of the West End of downtown location is easy to get to from a plethora of hotels and homes. It has plenty of parking options The nearest parking options to Matador (722 S Main St, Greenville, SC) are the West End parking areas, specifically the South Main Street Lot (911 S Main St) for close surface parking, or the River Street Garage (315 River St) for a nearby garage option.
Closest Surface Lot: South Main Street Lot (911 S Main St), located near Fluor Field.
Nearest Garages: River Street Garage or the Poinsett Garage.
City Parking Rules: Generally, the first hour is free in City of Greenville parking garages. on-street parking is free (be sure and watch for time limits), as is the first hour of parking in city garages. The second hour is $2, $1/hour after that, and $7 for the entire day.

VALUE> Since this made two meals EXCELLENT value!

THIS personal interaction and care is what I look for in a dining experience even when I choose something quick – it is HOT, FRESH, VERY GENEROUS PORTIONS (with something for every person’s eating preference) AND SOOOO DELICIOUS.

Really great to finally have a successful business in this building- my first time visiting last night since their opening and the happy hour menu did not disappoint! We (2 people) shared complimentary chips and salsa, guacamole which also came with two different salsas, a huge chicken quesadilla, and 3 street tacos (carnitas, shredded chicken, and chorizo) AND- I got a frozen margarita; all for about $31! Hard to beat that these days. Not to mention, usually frozen margs are hit or miss, but this one was smooth and super flavorful. Definitely want to come back and try more of their food! They also have a rooftop bar and second level of indoor seating. Only thing I noticed was the service could have been a bit faster, but maybe that was just our experience.

I’m sitting in the Matador right now enjoying a happy hour Margarita and delicious chicken tortilla soup. It’s hard to explain this place is so incredibly beautiful. They must have 500 candles lit and a propane fire in the bar area, that make the ambience of this place just magical and fun. They have Spanish music in the background. I just can’t say enough about how wonderful my experience is right now. I highly recommend this place.

Wife and I came here for dinner the other night. The atmosphere was amazing. I really wanted to check out the whiskey house but it’s only open on the weekends. The bar tender was amazing and very attentive of everyone.
There in house salsa is probably one of my top 3, it’s definitely got a kick to it but that’s what I like about it. The wife got a couple of there specialty margaritas and didn’t have a complaint on either. We got the nachos to share and I’ll tell you right now, there huge. I got the quesadilla and she got the street tacos. She said the street tacos were a little dry and a little bland. And we noticed the same thing with the nachos. They were still very good. I definitely reccomend the Matador.

Wonderful place to eat! There were 7 of us and we all had great meals for dinner. The spice in the salsa and in our main courses was perfect. I had the carne asada tacos with beans and rice – so good! Our server Jackson did an excellent job taking care of us. He explained the menu, gave a few recommendations since we asked, spoke in a clear loud voice, and was so attentive to us! The hostess who seated us also was awesome. The atmosphere is unique and warm. Great place and would definitely go back.
