Honestly this is a really great spot. Nice atmosphere, friendly service, tasty pizza, and fair prices. The japanenos added some nice flavor and heat to my slice of pepperoni. Glad that was an option! The BBQ chicken pizza was good, but I wish the sauce had been a little thicker. I’d give this place’s pizza a 8.5/10 for a thin crust. So crunchy and importantly NOT unevenly cooked / droopy like I’ve had at another place, Pizza e Birra.

I had a great experience here! I called ahead of time to ask about their protocols for handling their gluten free pizzas because I have Celiac disease. They were able to answer my questions. Gluten Free 12″ pizzas are available (the crust is also vegan), they use separate pans for the oven, dedicated pizza cutters, and they wear clean gloves when handling. They did say they can’t guarantee anything because they have regular flour in the building, but I felt safe knowing the precautions they take and that everyone was knowledgeable and trained on cross contact.
When I arrived, I clarified this information and I felt safe eating here. I ordered a gluten free pepperoni pizza. They do “by the slice” deals but not for gluten free pizza. I was absolutely ok with that. I’ll happily eat the whole pie by myself. My partner ordered a slice of regular pepperoni. The food was brought out to the table separately to avoid cross-contamination. It was delicious! I’m from Massachusetts and even with the gluten free crust, this reminded me of home. I’ll definitely be back!
They don’t have gluten free sub rolls but they did say they could do a salad version for people who can’t do the sub rolls.
They have a variety of bottled and canned beverages. It was a pleasant, inclusive space to be in and the staff was super friendly and helpful.

5 stars all around! As soon as I walked in the front staff member JUNE greeted with me amazing energy aswell other staff members , the owner was present and gave amazing energy asking how everything was . I got the two slice deal and an order of garlic knots ! Best garlic knotts I’ve ever had, super soft and fluffy and the pizza was perfect ! Definitely deserve a true 5 star rating !

Best pizza in san diego. Truthfully one of the best pizza slices i’ve EVER had. The service is always top notch, Mike is so friendly and same with all the staff. My boyfriend and i live down the street so we come here frequently. It’s one of our favorite places.

In full disclosure I had just walked into an adjacent establishment and decided their menu didn’t fit me. The reviews here were great so we decided to give it a shot.
The pizza slices sitting on the counter had an artistic presentation. The creator (chef) obviously takes his time putting each and every one of them together.
The counterstaff were great. I always have a lot of questions and they had a lot of suggestions.
We ordered several different slices and a couple of subs to share. It struck me as odd that the meatballs on the sub were sliced, but it helped out eating it. If you’ve never had a meatball roll off your sub into your shirt then you’re not eating enough meatballs. Pizza slices were as good as they looked.
Mike and Jen came out and talked to us for a few minutes, how great is it that the owners would take time out on a busy Friday night to spend with new customers.
It would be great if they had some parking here for guests, but I’m quickly finding out that blacktop is at a premium in CA.

I used to go to the San Marcos location that closed down during Covid and I never realized there is one in Hillcrest! Met Mike the owner and he along with the rest of the staff who were VERY gracious and accomodating. I came in close to closing time and instead of turning me away they hooked it up with pizza and garlic knots. The pizza is as good as I remember it. It has amazing crunch and is thin yet has the substance of thicker pizza and great flavor! Pizza by the slice and cheap! Garlic knots are priced well too! Got a lot of them to go so I can give some to the Wife who also loves this place. Thank you, I will be back!

OMG, I finally found my pizza spot. I grew up in NH, lived in Mass., NJ worked in NYC and DC. I have had exceptional pizza and crave great pizza. I have been tracking suggestions from influencers on Tic Tok and IG Reels, watching pizza reviews, etc. My search is over. Mass Mike’s is EXCEPTIONAL pizza. The crust has a great crunch and structure, the under carriage is firm, slice doesn’t flop, holds straight when you pick it up. It somehow feels like a thicker crust but is light and airy and eats like a thinner crust. It’s perfect. It doesn’t over power the pizza with too much crust. The sauce has the perfect balance of sweetness and tomato twang. The toppings are cut perfectly to be hearty and rustic without going too far to weigh down the slice or break the structural integrity of the crust. Just perfect. The cheese has great string and freshness. We got the large supreme pizza and next day asking ourselves when we can go back. Mike was behind the counter with his crew. They were having a great time with each other. They were having fun and it carried across the counter. All the locals and regulars filled the place and they feed off the fun vibe and were having fun too. It was dinner and a comedy show. We had so much fun. PHENOMENAL pizza, great service, fun staff and patrons. I will go back and dine in again, but I will not buy a pizza anywhere else in SD. Mass Mike’s became my go to spot last night.

Best NY style Pizza in San Diego. Slices are huge and great cheese to sauce to toppings ratio. I normally crush three slices at Bronx / Luigis / Pizza on Pearl but had to find that extra strength to get all three down.
They had Pep with Jalapenos which is my favorite, and I got a meat lovers. Both were fantastic.
Service was great and the atmosphere was clean and fun with big windows to people/homeless watch.
Only down side is it’s 5.25 a slice, but as a 200 lb man I only need two now that I know, so $10 for the best pizza is a no brainer.
If you love pizza like I do you gotta go!
