Hello. Last night three of us had dinner at the restaurant around 6:00. The atmosphere is friendly, comfortable and the restaurant was very busy. We had made a reservation, good thing too. So we were promptly seated and the waitress brought us water and a basket of fresh baked rolls and seasoned butter, yum. I ordered a lemon drop martini that was lemony tart, sweet with the right amount of vodka. Perfection. Two of us ordered the battered haddock dinners. Fish was cooked well, fries crispy and the steamed vegetables were delicious. The salmon dinner was thoroughly enjoyed by Bob who said it was perfect, flaky and he ate it all. Our table was visited by the owner who was welcoming and inquired about our food and thanked us for stopping in.
This is lengthy but when a dining experience is from our perspective, well people need to know. Thanks! We will return. Debbie

My daughter was going to do something special for my birthday and made reservations for dinner. Upon entering the dinning room there is very small table for two when you immediately step in to the left of the dinning room. One chair is against the wall where the hostess has her book of reservation and is a check in area. The room was pretty empty because it was early and I asked if we could move to the two seater by the wall which would be more private than having the hostess over our heads. She refused and told us they were booked. I understand that but unless you have assigned seats or name reserved it made no sense. Since they are well known for their food and prices I felt this to be unreasonable. Not being at all comfortable at the tiny table assigned to us and having the next tables chair bumped up to mine we decided to leave to a more comfortable place. I will probably not return knowing it’s a chance you take that you will be seated where they choose to seat you be it a seating that might be comfortable for one person only.

I hate writing bad reviews for small businesses. However, I think criticism may better help the restaurant. Let me explain.
I moved to the area about a year ago and walked by Mason’s Grille. Place was busy, smelled amazing. My wife and I enjoyed the food and we would recommend this place to all our friends and family. So let’s establish that I am not a complete hater of this restaurant.
We went yesterday evening for dinner and this was my honest experience.
– There’s a strange smell the the dinning area.
– Service is always great.
– Soups and bread are great.
– Caesar Salad seemed dry and lacking of cheese. The presentation almost looked like a bag of Wegmans romaine lettuce without any dressing and a few pieces of grilled chicken slices.
– Mac and Cheese Lobster – watered down cheese sauce and too garlicky + a small portion of lobster. This was not worth $33.
-Seafood Norfolk – oh boy. When I had this a year ago, it was amazing. The fish was so bland, tasteless, no seasoning. I’m guessing the seafood was frozen and thawed out in the oven.
– Bloody Mary and chocolate martini – Excellent.
– Mason’s perfect pomegranate – fruit flies in our drink. Yummy.
Overall if I can recap this review. I’m not a professional critic. I’m just a guy that travels a lot in the states, eats different foods and watch a lot of nightmare kitchen. This place, in my opinion use to be great. I can tell, over the year that they are cutting corners in food quality and portion. The pricing is also tiered with some of the higher end spots downtown.
Hoping for the best for this business.

Food was fabulous!! Frech onion soup draped with gruyere cheese (which comes with any entree!) & the chicken pot pie was awesome- served outside the pot in a bowl with 2 perfectly puffy & flaky pastry puffs– so cool! Service was great & food came out timely. Highly recommend!

Went on a Wednesday evening, the dining room was almost completely empty except for one table at that point and the waitress decided to sit us right next to that table, it was very uncomfortable, there’s no music or anything so the dining room is completely silent and all we could hear was the conversation of the table next to us, we didn’t feel comfortable at all even talking to each other at a normal volume, so we were whispering, finally I asked her if we could eat in the bar instead. It was much more comfortable in there, with blues music providing some background sound. The place got busy pretty quick and there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant. We waited almost 1 hour for our food. The food was great, home cooked comfort food, flavorful,.. the braised short ribs fell apart, super tender, flavorful gravy, the mashed potatoes were very creamy. The pot pie was also great with a nice thick creamy sauce , although there could have been more carrots. When we were finished eating and ready to leave I ordered a piece of carrot cake to go, for the waitress to bring back with the bill…. over 15 minutes passed before she finally came back, and that was only after we had stood up and made it obvious that we were in a rush to go and even approached the bartender to try to cash out. So plan on being there for a long time, takes forever to get your food and takes forever to get your bill. Carrot cake was not good. If you’re expecting a moist cake filled with raisins and walnuts and carrot with a thick rich cream cheese frosting, you will be sorely disappointed! It was just…meh. and the frosting had a general sweetness but no flavor.

The first steak came out what’s medium well I ordered it rare, the second one came out it was raw. The manager came out confrontational completely unprofessional, he seemed to be intoxicated. He claimed the the first steak was perfect the second steak was perfect. Then when I brought it to his attention that his bartender saw the first one immediately knew it wasn’t rare he then admitted he didn’t see the first one. Then he tried to tell me he had a chef back there LOL. He was very disrespectful and rude. The appetizer was very good, It was a mushroom appetizer very tasty. The service was very good as well. Fix the food and the management and you got a really nice experience. Overall impression I’m not going back there that’s for sure.

Wow! We ate here for then first time last night. On a whim we decided to drive 1.5 hours away for something to do, decided to eat here. This was a great find. We will be back. Everything was good, we were very pleased. I read some of the negative reviews and found nothing that supports them.

We had just finished hiking a few miles away, and wanted to celebrate the miles. After searching for Steak restaurants in the area, we came across this lovely place. The food was presented beautifully, the option to sit at the window was a nice treat, and the price was reasonable. The service was hit or miss at times, but that didn’t sour my overall feelings for this choice.

Kind of disappointed. The bar area was really cool and then you walk through a door and it looks like your in an Alton’s. A higher class menu with an atmosphere that didn’t hit the mark. I ordered fish that had no seasoning on it at all- my husband got the duck and also described the food as bland. Wanted to like this place but unfortunately, first and last time for us.
