Where do I begin…
I was looking for places open on Christmas Eve and of course all the popular places in town are all closed but then I saw Mashawee House and at first I was a bit skeptical since it only had 30-40 reviews at the time of visiting but I called ahead of time to confirm they were open and they were.
Now don’t expect this to be extremely fast. EVERYTHING is made cook to order and EXTREMELY FRESH. You can choose your kebabs legit right in front of you and they cook it to perfection.
I had a Kufta sandwich and a strawberry smoothie it was soooo good. I could eat it legit everyday and never get sick of it. The meat in the sandwich was so juicy and tender and the fresh veggies that were in it was the cherry on top. I got it as a meal, the fries were like diner steak cut fries almost like texas roadhouse and they were fresh and hot but just basic frozen fries but still great.
Honestly I have no idea why they aren’t packed to the brim. This place doesn’t cheap out on quality nor quantity. This is my new go to place in town. 11/10

This is the middle eastern food I’ve been longing for in CU! Freshly made, flavorful, and delicious! The staff was super friendly, answered lots of questions, and the food came out pretty quickly! We tried all four kababs and were very impressed. The meat was cooked perfectly. The chicken marinade was amazing! I feel like chicken is usually bland, dry and underwhelming but it was my favorite. The chicken pita sandwich was tasty but it did fall apart a bit too quickly to eat as a sandwich.
Since it is a new restaurant there are a few places for improvement. 1) make the atmosphere cozier. 2) please get reusable utensils! We loved your plates and bowls and would love to see no waste from cutlery.
So excited to have this in Urbana! We will be back!

The meat skewers here were so juicy and delicious. Some of the best I’ve ever had, and certainly the best in the area. The baba ganoush was also incredible. Very smokey. The guy working at the front is super nice and helpful as well. Very excited that this place has opened up and definitely plan to be back.

Beautiful, cozy, no-frills place! Extremely nice staff and phenomenal food – what more can you ask for in the small town of Urbana?
We had the Hummus and Baba Ghanoush as the starters with some warm pita – both of which were amazing! Drizzled with some wonderfully sweet olive oil.
And for mains we had the Combo platter – 2 slewers each of Filet Mingon, Lamb, Chicken and Kufte. Everything was delicious but the lamb and chicken were the stars!! So so good!!! And all of this came out to be $58 for 4 people?? Extremely well-priced!

I keep coming back here for a a filling, healthy dinner! The meat is always extremely tender and falls apart in your mouth. The food is cooked to order and is always hot straight off the grill. The order comes with a complementary side of bread, veggies, and dipping sauces while you wait for the main course. The skewers are my go-to!

I just wanna say, THANK YOU for the delicious food you prepared for us! What an amazing meal we shared tonight. The food was so fresh and delicious. All the meats we tried (chicken, lamb, etc) were insanely tender and flavorful. The baba ghanoush and hummus were one of the best I’ve eaten!! I can’t wait to come back and try more stuff from the menu So happy this place is in town now!

I think the average American would feel intimidated eating here. I loved it though, excellent food, and wholesome staff.
The connected international market is also awesome, with unique selections of products from around the world.
Personally I picked up some Kvass, and Ukrainian oat cookies as well, for a little after dinner treat.
10/10 place, don’t let the signage outside throw you off.

I eat here a lot, the kufta and chicken sandwiches and skewers are my go-tos. The wings are also great. Everything is made to order, the flavor of the meat is pretty special. It’s good for takeout or a bigger dine-in order with a group, and the employees are good at making recommendations if it’s your first time. I’ve also developed a soft spot for the soda brand they have, C&C, which I haven’t seen anywhere else.
