Masakali, which means ‘pegion’ in Hindi, embodies the spirit of freedom, just like the catchy tune from the famous Bollywood song that inspired our name. The fantastic and addictive melody of the song resonated with us, much like the vibrant and spirited atmosphere we aim to create at our restaurant. Just as the song Masakali has evolved into a timeless classic, our culinary creations are designed to leave a lasting impression. At Masakali, we’ve infused that essence into every dish and cocktail, aiming to provide a dining experience that is as unforgettable as the song itself. We want you to savour not just the flavors but also the joy of dining here.

The evening had a proper Bollywood vibe — live music, dancing, masti, and tasty food to go with it. There was a private party, so things did get a bit chaotic at times, but honestly, it added to the fun rather than taking away from it. We even ended up joining in for karaoke singing and dancing, which made the night even more memorable.
Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. They usually have live Bollywood music on Friday evenings, so it’s definitely worth booking a table in advance to avoid disappointment. Would happily go again!
Easily the best Indian restaurant in town. Service by the manager is hands down the best. For other off-license and so-called entitled folks running businesses in Reading – learn what is customer service from this guy!
Food presentation and taste is fab. Every item we have ordered came out to be perfect. Milk cake looks like a house special and is a must try. I had the actual authentic Hyderabadi Mirchi ka Salan at this place and the taste is on another level. Rarely we see these kind of places with everything turning out to be perfect.
I would recommend this place for any group size but make sure to reserve a table before you go and there is paid street parking in the Shuguard lane next to the store. Or if you dine in before 10pm you use the TGI Fridays/ALDI parking just across the road.
I honestly wasn’t expecting to be blown away like this, but wow… Masakali has officially set a new bar for Indian food in the UK.
I ordered the Old Delhi Butter Chicken, and let me tell you — this dish alone is worth the trip. The sauce was rich, authentic, full of depth, and the chicken literally melted in my mouth. I mean it: I haven’t tasted anything like this anywhere else in the UK. Absolutely outstanding.
For starters, I went with the Malai Paneer Tikka and Hara Bhara Kabab — both were delicious, beautifully cooked, and packed with flavour. Then came the Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani, and again… flawless. The chicken came off the bone effortlessly, nothing messy, just perfectly cooked, aromatic biryani that only a truly skilled chef can pull off.
And the cocktails? Ufff, the cocktails were on another level. Their Bollywood-themed menu is super fun, and I highly, highly recommend their signature NAATU NAATU — it’s the one I’ll be ordering forever. WHY THIS KOLAVERI DI was great too, but NAATU NAATU wins my heart.
On top of all that, the staff were so lovely, warm, and genuinely attentive, which just made the night even better.
If you’re anywhere near Reading – Masakali should be on your list. I’m already planning my next visit.
Apologies forgot to take few pictures as food was too delicious. Can’t resist.
Right from the moment we walked in, the ambience, music, and warmth of the staff made it feel special. We were celebrating Diwali and a friend’s birthday, and it couldn’t have been more perfect!
The cocktails were absolutely brilliant. I loved the Naatu Naatu (so smooth and flavourful!) and the Lungi Dance, which had that fun, tangy kick and totally reminded me of a pani puri shot!
The veg starter platter was bursting with flavour, and the slow-cooked Dal Makhani was honestly to die for. The Vegetable Jalfrezi, Bhindi Do Pyaza, stuffed kulchas, and garlic naan were all amazing – comforting, rich, and perfectly cooked.
My friends who ordered the non-veg dishes couldn’t stop raving about them either and truly every plate was wiped clean!
I also tried their chaas, which was wonderfully authentic and refreshing after all that food!
A big shout-out to Mr. Vishnu and Mr. Kunal, who made the evening even better with their warmth, attentiveness, and genuinely friendly service. Everything was quick, thoughtful, and seamless from start to finish.
All in all, it was an epic night — amazing food, creative cocktails, and the loveliest team. Can’t wait to go back!
The paneer tikka masala was rich and creamy, and the garlic naan was soft and fresh, perfect for scooping up the tasty sauce. The masala papad made for a great starter, light and crunchy.
Our server, Vishnu, was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and offering helpful suggestions. The service really added to our positive experience.
Overall, Masakali offers great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service. I highly recommend it, especially for the beetroot chop and the warm hospitality. I’ll definitely be coming back!
