An amazing lunch omakase experience, delicious and flavourful! Tadokoro was wonderful in preparing the food and explaining each dish, and answering our questions about what “traditional preparation” or other terms meant as well. The interior was very quiet, though I assume as we went for lunch on a weekday, it’s likely not a busy time overall.

Everything was extremely fresh, and my favorite dishes were the shrimp as it was cool with a juicy and plump texture, the tuna otoro which was rich and fatty with a nice warmth due to their light charcoal radiant heating of the top surface, and the mackerel sushi that had really crunchy and fresh vegetables that mixed with and developed the flavour of the roll as you continued to chew. I normally eat a lot so I was wondering if I would be full, but the number as well as richness of the dishes left me very satisfied. I also chose to add the $60 sake pairing, and got to try 3 different sake, all of which were very smooth and enjoyable.

I remember going to a sushi omakase in Kyoto when I was in Japan 2 years ago, which was very good, and about $160 CAD per person based on price conversion at the time. The lunch set menu here is $280 CAD at the time of writing this review. Quality wise, I actually think that this is significantly better than my experience in Kyoto, even though still fondly remember my Kyoto experience as I really enjoyed the dishes there as well. The service, quality and flavour of the dishes here were just even more incredible in my opinion.

It is however a higher price point for an omakase, so it’s not something I can go to casually or every day. But as a special Valentine’s Day celebration in our case, I’m glad to have chosen this place as it makes me remember Japan fondly, enjoying high quality food with my wife.

We booked a 5pm dinner, and were rushed to finish within an hour so they can serve the next group at 6pm. It was almost like they tried to fit us in before the main 6pm event. To spend almost $1000 for two for a meal that was rushed within an hr is disappointing.

Parking here was just terrible, no clear instruction on which door we should get to made our experience even worse.

No menu to tell us how many courses we will have or introduction about the experience.

We expected a lot and ended up feeling very disappointed by the experience.

We got here all the way from Calgary to celebrate a special occasion and ended up feeling like we wasted our time.

Had lunch omakase yesterday, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The chef and staff were very friendly and talkative! I was delighted to try a new sake. I can confidently say this is the highest quality omakase I’ve had in Vancouver—better than the two Michelin-starred Japanese restaurants I’ve tried before. The only thing I think could be improved is that the flavors were a bit on the salty side. If they were a touch milder, it would better highlight the freshness of the ingredients. We also celebrated our anniversary here, and the staff were kind enough to take a photo for us.

Had the most exquisite dining experience at Masa! High end interior design. Fresh and high quality ingredients from Japan. Service was excellent. Chef and server were very attentive. Highly recommend!

Chef Okamoto and the team at Sushi Kiwami made it a special night to celebrate a birthday with amazing food, great service and a relaxed but authentic ambiance. We enjoyed every bite, but the Hokkaido uni, blue fin tuna, and beluga caviar was out of this world. Yes it’s pricey but we thought for those milestone occasions it’s worth the treat.

The overall dining experience was elegant and the quality of most dishes was excellent. However, my last piece of sushi contained multiple fish bones, which was quite unexpected at this price point (around CAD $300 per person). The chef did apologize, but there was no further gesture or compensation. While I respect the craftsmanship and atmosphere, I left feeling somewhat disappointed given the high standards usually associated with omakase dining.

This is a good place if you want some quality Japanese food made by a Japanese team. Is it expensive, yes, but what authentic omakase is not? Are there cheaper Japanese places? Yes, but it’s not the same. So all in all, go here if you appreciate a quiet quality meal with those you love and care about.

Honestly just mediocre. I’m on a one-omakase-a-week tour around BC, and this place fell way short for the price tag of $299.

Compared to my favourite place so far Sushi Jin at $100 less, the flavour, attention to detail, service were all noticeably lacking at Kiwami. Every piece wasn’t as flavourful, serving temperature wasn’t as consistent, and the rice simply didn’t complement the fish.

New waitress working when asked what dish she put in front of me responded, “fried fish.” Lol. If you’re paying $299+ for an experience, the delivery better be polished.

Sake options were expensive at $50+/bottle. Better sub-$25 options at Jin.

Chef at Jin habitually gives extra treats to please guests. I was charged an extra $15 here without knowing lol.

There were latecomers to most places I visited. Other places respect the on-time diners and don’t compromise the experience to accommodate latecomers – Kiwami would. Felt rushed in feeding bursts, followed by wide gaps. Pacing wasn’t comfortable.

Anyways, at quality similar to Maumi for $80, abysmal Wagyu compared to Shu for $150 + $86 for 6x more/better Wagyu, Kiwami clearly not worth it at $299.

Don’t understand all the hype about this place. Priced at 499+ per person for the top option, it is nothing close compared to the relatively similar priced options in the east coast (including 1/2 Michelin star places). Weird course progression (a beef dish between two fish dishes), sloppy knife skills, and mediocre rice.
I guess they can charge their price due to no other competition but I’d rather save the money and go to better places elsewhere. Always some random rich/uncultured person who will fall for this restaurant. A friend of mine also went and had the same feeling about this restaurant as well.
Won’t recommend and won’t be returning.
