Mary’s Market is a fast and casual cafe that serves fresh, real food made from top quality ingredients by people who care.
Since 1982, we’ve built a reputation for serving wholesome, authentic, and healthy cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. All our foods are made from scratch – no preservatives. Our breads, desserts, soups, pasta sauces, sandwiches, and salads are handmade and prepared from the freshest, highest quality ingredients. No other restaurant of our kind, we’re very proud to say, can claim that.
But, then there is no other restaurant of our kind, one that combines cuisine worthy of a fine dining experience with fast casual pricing. We are a Rockford Original.
Long-running diner serving familiar breakfast-to-dinner eats, plus baked goods & pizzas.

We stopped for brunch with my wife’s parents and had a great time. The atmosphere is welcoming. I really appreciate all the natural light and the nice view of State Street.
The coffee was excellent and the service was quick which made it all the more pleasant.
Our server, Olivia, was an absolute delight! Friendly, attentive, and made our visit even better.
I ordered the Honey Chipotle Chicken Tacos with sweet potato fries, and my wife had the Shrimp Tacos with mac and cheese. Everything was good, but the shrimp tacos really stood out as the best part of the meal.
Overall, a wonderful brunch spot with great food, warm service, and a relaxing atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

The moment we walked in, a gentleman greeted us and became our server. At first, everything seemed normal — until we sat down. As we looked at the table, we immediately noticed dried, stuck-on food on the plates and coffee cups already sitting there. It was enough to make us pause.
Our server told us it didn’t make sense to sit at a dirty table and suggested we move. Fair enough — we agreed and relocated, hoping it was just a one-time oversight.
But when we sat down at the second table and picked up the dishes, it was worse. There was even more food stuck to the plates and cups than at the first table. We pointed it out, and this time he grabbed the dishes with visible frustration and walked away.
A few minutes later, he returned with another set. We checked them carefully — and unbelievably, there was still food on them. It honestly looked like the same plates he had just taken back.
At that point, the situation felt less like a mistake and more like we were being brushed off. The server then asked if we just wanted to leave because he didn’t want to serve us. We agreed. As we walked out, he spoke about us behind the counter to his coworkers, and was noticeably rude to the young woman who had simply been trying to hand us menus.
We never got his name, but he was middle-aged, tall, wore glasses, had an accent, and a gray beanie. What should have been a simple breakfast turned into an uncomfortable experience. Between the cleanliness issues and the way we were treated, it’s unlikely we’ll be returning.

The given menus were so dirty I never ordered any food. They weren’t just sticky they were also dirty like I’ve never seen before. The waitress seemed to agree and gave my son his coffee at no charge. We did buy a bag of coffee last time but Id never eat there.
ETA My son visited again recently so I had to change the star rating it probably deserves. Sorry to say the owner never addressed it on the most popular critiques available. Maybe there’s a lack of leadership there.

Mary’s Market on State St. is a fantastic spot for brunch. Everything is incredibly fresh, and the flavors far exceeded our expectations. We ordered French toast, the veggie stacked sandwich with the Italian soup and a create your own omelette. Despite being busy, everything came out in a timely manner, and the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere resembles that of a cozy cafe, great lighting, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. Highly recommend! 5 out of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First time customer and last time customer. We had to wait 20 minutes for service. Customers that came in after we did we’re served before we were. Our food was warm at best. We both ordered the skillet breakfast. It was a big mistake. The majority of the skillet was filled with potatoes some eggs and supposedly meat and vegetables. Didn’t see any of those in my skillet. Absolutely the worst service we have ever had. I doubt that the owners read the reviews or they would change the service and timelyness of service and hot food.

this place is gone downhill and not same as it was five or six years ago. went for an evening meal, and many of the lights were out in the restaurant, and most of the booths had torn upholstery. only two other parties and the restaurant when we were there and it took forever to get our food and the orders were not correct.I have serious doubts. If what I was served was supposed to be a cauliflower crust pizza— I am sure it had the taste and texture of a regular pizza crust. Other options in rockford for a good meal and service besides this place.

Was about 5 mins before anyone addressed us to be seated. By then the line was out the door. We are seated and the waitress starts taking orders from the last person to us (first to be seated).
When they finally come over they see we have two glasses of water for four people and say “I see you have water do you need anything else”. Yes, how about drinks for the rest of the group.
– They do not include the drink menu and drinks are not on the main menu.
Finally got our food, and that was the last time we saw the waitress before we finished our food. Never asked if we wanted refills, napkins, or how the food was.

Went November 24th to this location a woman with dark curly short hair heavy set weighted on us. Not a good experience myself husband and friend ordered at register and I gave my order to her she repeated it my husband and friend both heard her repeat it and she never put my order in so the food came to table but my order never got rang up. I brought this to there attention and instead of apologizing and or acknowledging they made a mistake or I dont know offering to make it and giving it to me on the house she said I will have to put it in and ring you up. Lol unbelievable so I sat with no food while people ate. I feel this should be addressed.

This was my 2nd time here and it has surpassed my expectations once again. I got a half sandwich & salad and it was healthy, delicious, and way more food than Panera! You get to choose your bread (I got sourdough), up to 3 meats on the sandwich, plus choice of cheese, sauces (i chose pesto), and toppings (lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, sprouts, etc). Then you choose between 2 different salads or your choice of soup. Plus a cookie! Everything here tastes home made and delicious..I just can’t say enough good things about this place. If you don’t worry about being healthy, they have really yummy comfort foods too, like Mac & cheese . You order at the counter, get a number, then they bring it to your table. Their bakery is amazing too – my boyfriend got a raspberry cheesecake and we thought about getting a pie to go!
