Monday of last week my group got the $19 wine special and made sure to choose a wine that was in that price range. Unfortunately I was overcharged, likely for the full price of the bottle, and I didn’t realize it in the moment. When I went back the next day the Bartender was super friendly and said they’d try to sort it out, took my number and I left. Unfortunately I never heard from them again and I’m out my ~$20. Just a bummer because otherwise we enjoyed this spot.

Great food and ambiance. They have a large drink menu. I ordered the burger and my friend ordered the trout. The only reason I am not giving this place 4 stars is because my friend’s trout had so many bones and he couldn’t eat it. BUT the waiter was so nice that he exchanged it for a burger at no charge. The double chocolate ale was delicious. I will definitely come back to check out their live music nights. Give it a try.

Great little hole in the wall! Been by it a ton of times but stopped in for brunch on New Year’s eve and had great food and a phenomenal bartender. Looking forward to coming back to watch a soccer game!

The calamari was good and I really liked the music. It gets really crowded once evening hits but if you go right when they open it’s pretty peaceful. I will definitely go back to see the live jazz.

Would not return. The food was ok (chicken gyro, farmer veggie burger, grilled chicken lemon pasta), but service was terrible. Server never brought ordered appetizer and brought wrong entree. She left the more expensive incorrect entree on the bill. She didn’t check whether we needed anything and took extra long to return when we did locate her and ask for drink refills.

Marx Cafe is a Mount Pleasant gem. I often pop in for a quick dinner and always leave happy. (Tip: Get the avgolemono soup and ask for black pepper!) The menu is reasonably priced, and the staff are all great. Yes, the space is small and often crowded, especially when the live jazz band performs, but that’s part of the charm. It feels a lot more authentic than a lot of pricier options in the area.
If you’re looking for a place that can be your local bar, then this more than fits the bill. I’m moving out of the neighborhood in a few months; I’ll miss having such an awesome place be only a five-minute walk from my apartment!
