Marugame Udon at Valley Fair delivers a fun, theatrical experience with fresh handmade udon noodles prepared right in front of you, and the chewy texture paired with flavorful broths like Nikutama or Tan Tan really hits the spot for authentic Japanese comfort food. Most main udon bowls fall comfortably in the $10-15 range, offering generous portions and great value for a quick mall meal, especially when you add a piece or two of crispy tempura without breaking the bank. The only minor drawbacks are the frequent crowds and limited seating during peak shopping hours, which can make it feel a bit rushed. Overall, it’s a solid go-to for tasty, affordable udon in San Jose—definitely worth four stars and a repeat visit off-peak.

Went for lunch on a Monday, so it was still crowded but only a few minutes wait to order. We tried the Creamy Broth topped pork chashu and seasoned egg, the Curry Nikutama with beef and soft boiled egg, and the Premium Tendon rice bowl with seasonal tempura, 2 shrimp tempura, and a seasoned egg. They were all pretty good for the prices and the speed of service. The tempura on the premium tendon bowl was a little soggy, especially for the meat, but the flavor was good. Would go back again when shopping at the mall.

Fast and tasty food, I can’t complain.
Went there on the weekend during dinner time and it seemed super busy. There was a line outside with like 10 or so people in it. Nevertheless we waited in it and it shrunk quite quickly. Ordering is quite optimized as you go through the flow chart of getting your food. Quick to order, get the food, and sit.
Got the curry option and it was yummy. Also got the fried toppings too and it was also yummy. It was quite enjoyable yes.

Went for dinner on a Friday night and have to wait in the queue for about 10 mins which is okay. Good selection of udon noodles at very reasonable prices along with a good variety of tempura side dishes. The portion is filling even for a regular serving and the taste of freshly made udon noodles definitely makes a difference. This restaurant totally justifies why it is popular especially with the younger generation.

Started lining up outside of the place but it moves very fast! Staff are all super kind and efficient allowing the line to move fast. I got the regular Kake and an imitation crab tempura, both perfectly cooked. The udon noodles were thick and bouncy and broth was flavorful. The tempura was super good and probably my favorite and would go just for the tempura. The dining area was super clean and a staff member assisted in organizing my dishes at the return area. One of the best marugame locations I’ve been to. Make sure to give it a try!

We got the udon but realized those too thick noodles are not my cup of tea. Everything was okay-okay for me. I wouldn’t go there again. Good vibe though. There might be line so when you come you might have to wait for 5-10 minutes.

Went there for lunch with a friend. Service was fast line move quick. we ordered the beef udon but it is too sweet to my liking. Maybe other options will be better. The favor is great it’s just that the soup is too sweet.

9/10. The food was really good. I love the whole setup. I love thick noodles but I personally feel they were tooo thick or me I would still come back. Everything was reasonably priced and worth whatever you may spend.

Much less crowded than the other noodle shop opposite …. prices are much cheaper. But the quality is not there and service so so.
Chose the noodles with creamy sauce and it was barely warm, and the taste was bland. Didn’t finish even half of it.
The chicken katsu curry was a little better, the rice was piping hot. The sauce didn’t taste much like regular Japanese katsu curry sauce (I’ve had many) but it was quite tasty.
The potstickers were crispy but with a weird over-savory meat filling that felt packaged.
We’ll pay more next time and go across the way

Slice of pork doesn’t even look like a pork belly on the picture. Creamy broth lacked any flavor. On the possible side, egg tasted just fine.
