Had dinner here, and the food exceeded our expectations. The sushi was fresh and delicate. The sauces added a unique and flavorful touch to each dish. The tempura’s light, airy coating accented the natural taste of the ingredients. 10/10 recommend!!!

Not only was the food DELICIOUS and fresh. The staff catered to us. I was so pleasantly surprised trying this place for the first time. Honestly, blown away. I love sushi and I feel a lot of places are not very authentic or great but this exceeded my expectations!!! 10/10 recommend. We will definitely be becoming regulars.

Discovered this place while looking for a ramen spot. First, I cannot say enough about the amazing staff. Our waitress was so kind and helpful and even brought my son birthday dumplings as a surprise! We ordered an assortment of rolls, a few different ramens, and tuna tartare. I didn’t think I’d enjoy the tuna but it was delicious! Although they have their liquor license they didn’t have sake yet which was no problem because we were able to grab a bottle from the restaurant nextdoor (where they are equally nice!). The bill for 5 people was incredibly reasonable and we won’t hesitate to go back.

I recently visited this location on a Saturday Night with a group of 5. The restaurant was fairly quiet, there were only 4 other tables sat when we walked in. It took some time for the waitress to get to us, which is fine, we placed our orders for drinks, and food. We only ordered one bottle of sake but this took about 15 minutes to get to us. We placed orders for an appetizer and each of us ordered anywhere from 1-3 rolls per person. I genuinely believe the waitress forgot to put our order in.
We had been sitting for well over 40 minutes and had not even received our appetizers. I spoke with the waitress and let her know we had been waiting a very long time, and she said she would start bringing our rolls out as they were ready. Somehow, two rolls were done before our appetizer even came out.
The waitress made a comment after we ate our food that we “ate it faster than it came out”. We had plans that evening so we had to rush to eat our food to make it on time. Overall, the food was ok, there is better sushi in Rochester, but the service was very poor, and there were no apologies made for the long wait time. I will not be returning, nor will I be recommending this place to anybody in the future. I can see why this place was so quiet on a Saturday.

On my first trip to Rochester, Maru proved to be my “go to” place for dinner.
The sushi is fresh and the staff is welcoming.
I had a remarkable, kind, professional, and knowledgeable server named Dani. Each night, she helped me choose the best meal for evening whether it involved sushi, sashimi, maki, green tea, sake, and even dessert.
Dani is not only an exceptional ambassador to Maru but to the City of Rochester as well.
I do hope Maru expands their sushi menu a little to showcase more variety.
While in Rochester, I hope this becomes your “go to” establishment as well.

Great place. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We had Ramen, it was delicious and comforting. We also shared a few different rolls and appetizers. The unfiltered saki was smooth and refreshing. Thank you for a great experience.

A great place for Ramen and sushi. I had the Shoyu Ramen which is a Ramen with sliced chicken and cabbage in a soy sauce chicken broth, served with Ajitsuke egg. I also tried tge Gyoza which is a dumpling with a chicken and pork mix. Finally, I tried the sushi, salmon and cucumber and eel and cucumber. These foods were amazing. Cooked well and great flavor!

This is a good sushi restaurant in a great location. The owners are amazing and welcoming, the food is outstanding, and the prices are very reasonable. They are flexible on the menu, ask for an Al special for a tasty bite. Quality of fish is excellent and to be honest the Miso soup is probably the best I have had in the US for a very long time. Give this a try, you will not be disappointed.
