West Tennessee’s legendary whole-hog BBQ tradition is the cornerstone of Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint. Pat Martin learned the art and craft of West Tennessee-style smoke and meat 25 years ago in the tiny town of Henderson, TN before making Nashville his home. It became a consuming passion that eventually led to a business when he opened the first Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint in October of 2006 in Nolensville, Tennessee – just south of Nashville. We come in at 5 am, every day, seven days a week. From the sides to the sauces, everything is made from scratch every single day – You’ll never find a freezer or microwave in our kitchens. But the bar-b-que actually starts a day ahead, as the process for smoking whole hogs simply can’t be rushed.
A pit for cooking entire pigs dominates the homey dining room at this popular BBQ emporium.

I was excited to dive into some BBQ so tried a good variety. My favorite might be the brisket or the wings. I wasn’t as much of a fan of the dry rub vs. sauced overall. Ribs were good as well, decent mac. The hoecake was a bit odd and slightly burnt in flavor. Last, the pulled pork nachos was the weakest dish, very wet and got soggy on the bottom (I’d recommend they put it over a grill of some kind if they add that much wet stuff to it).
Everything was absolutely excellent! We ate at the bar and the bartender was so very sweet. The beer selection offered many local craft options. The food was out of this world. Best bologna sandwich and baked beans I’ve ever had. Definitely visiting again!
I do miss that they don’t serve baby backs anymore, but always find something good to eat.
It‘s a nice looking place and you feel comfortable eating there.
As for the food – it was rather disappointing. The rips were barely warm, the brisket wasn’t warm either. I mean really it was cold… the nachos with pulled pork had hardly any pork, I would have expected more meat.
The taste itself was okay. But it really should have arrived hot! It didn’t arrive cold just to clarify it was ‚warm‘ but like cold within 5min.
They respected the extra wish to leave out cheese for the nachos, that was nice
Also again, great service!
I absolutely have to shout out Brody at the Martin’s BBQ location in Nolensville.
Brody embodies that classic Southern hospitality. He’s always ready with a massive smile, great energy, and is incredibly helpful with recommendations. Whether it’s guiding me to the perfect side dish or ensuring my to-go order is packed perfectly and quickly, he’s efficient and genuinely welcoming. He really makes you feel appreciated when you walk in the door.
It’s people like Brody that turn a great barbecue meal into a memorable local experience. If you’re visiting the Nolensville spot for some famous whole hog, make sure to say hi to Brody—he’s a huge asset to the team!
Keep up the great work, Brody!
Come in & give this place a whirl.
But what really msde it all so great were the two caterers, Jackie and Peyton, who showed up to the venue early, set things up so quickly, served us with warmth and a smile, and we’re just so so very kind. I loved chatting with them and working to get our soace set up, they were delightful. I pray someone sees this and gives them proper recognition & reward for a GREAT job! They earned it. 10/10, if you need BBQ catered, do Martin’s.
