If I am being honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of the food. We had a custom menu (pictured below) and my favorite was the Charcuterie plate. The bone marrow was also good until I got to the bottom which I was greeted by with pure slime/gelatin. For my main entree, it was good but the beef was very chewy.
The worst thing which was way too salty was the pasta aka the gruyere and ricotta gnudi. As well as the maitake mushroom dumplings which were really sweet. Overall, I more than likely would be hesitant to come back but I am grateful I got to experience a new restaurant.
I will return!
Marrow is top shelf dining experience. My friends and I went all in with the food paring ($90) and drink paring ($45) options. Pricey but well worth it. 3 small but flavorful starters, a wonderful pear salad, a chorizo and gnocchi dish head of the main event… a 7oz flat iron steak cooked to perfection over a bed of lightly smoked and tender pinto beans finishing with a single scoop of chestnut ice cream. But that was just the food. The drinks were carefully paired with each course. 5 in total. Each one balanced bitterness, sweetness, and acid with each course. My mouth was alive as if it had been raised from the dead. It was so amazing that I forgot to mentally note each drink so I could describe them in the future.
This place is a diamond in the rough. I only wish I had met the chef and the team behind the incredible experience.
I am from Los Angeles and have plenty of great places to dine. My visit to Detroit to watch my friends compete in an indoor track bike race was punctuated be this celebratory dinner.
If you love incredible food with thoughtfully pared drinks, I cannot recommend Marrow enough.
I reserved a spot for my girlfriend and I celebrating her birthday. No wait was necessary, host was nice and friendly. They served a birthday prosecco which made us super happy. Our waitress was friendly but not as attentive as other restaurants with a tasting menu of $90/person, still experience was great.
We both chose the tasting menu with a choice of cocktails. Food was delicious, very unique and beautifully plated. One person was delivering our food to the table but wasn’t really explaining what the plate is and the food server (different from our waitress) was hard to find when we had questions. They gave us a small ice cream though with a candle to celebrate, not too excessive which we liked.
In my personal opinion the cocktails were not my style (reason for the 1 star loss). They had their unique twist to the common drinks and might be my taste but I didn’t like it. It also came quite late (midway through the course, photos are in serving order)
Not sure if we would come back since the $ to food/drink value is questionable.
