The year is 1783. Colonial men, exhausted and elated with victory at the end of the Revolutionary War, set down their muskets and head to the local tavern in the heart of Marlborough, CT, to celebrate over a tankard of ale. Independence, freedom, and democracy are the words of the day. Today, The Marlborough Tavern continues to offer that “early American tavern” feel to modern-day diners and drinkers. We offer genial, old-fashioned service, an atmosphere of informality and friendliness where friends gather as in days of old. Pair classic American food created with fresh, local ingredients with craft beers, cocktails, and selected wines. In the spirit of democracy, everyone is welcome here!

The food and drinks are so good! I love that it’s a historical landmark. Imagining that i sat in the same spot as our first president is mind blowing. Rustic, cozy esthetic. Plus The service is awesome, all the girls that work there are beautiful and sweet. My husband and I go every Friday night for our date night. It’s good that we can earn points every time we go and save a bit of money. There’s never a wait to be seated which blows my mind every week. The best part is that it’s 10 minutes from my house. #winning

After some shopping in the area, my family and I visited Marlborough Tavern for an early dinner. They had a great variety on the menu and even some fun specials with it being St. Patrick’s weekend. Everything was delicious, and we especially loved their wings. Our server was friendly and attentive. The history of the restaurant paired well with our trip to Marlborough Barn beforehand, and we would definitely come back to do the same again!

10/10 came from out of state for a quick bit to eat. This is the rigatoni chicken parm! Perfect amount of crispiness and the vodka sauce is to die for. The “bottom of the pit” mixed drink was ammmmazzzinnggg. Apple crisp for dessert is the perfect ending. Can’t forget about the Carolina gold dipping sauce for the sweet potato fries!! Best food ever! Wish I lived closer!!

The food quality and taste was not bad. The meals were pricy for the portions, and did not seem to represent the description on the menu. The ratio & quantity of egg noodles to everything else for the short rib dish was both overwhelming and disappointing. A half dozen small cubes of root vegetables sprinkled over the top did not meet expectations.

We were placed in the back room, which feels like a converted event space and not a great option for Valentines date night (we had a reservation).

The overall experience did not align with the price of the meal.

This is a very cool historic tavern with some great food options. I was very happy with the food and menu options. Service was decent, and the atmosphere is very nice, particularly in the historic parts. The fireplace and bar have a very warm vibe. A few more local draft craft beer options would be nice. But it’s a cool place. I’ll be back next time I’m in the area.

Came because I have heard a lot about the Tavern from my man because as a teen, he used to work there. Very beautiful, rustic type atmosphere. We were put into the garden room. Very accommodating with my man’s wheelchair. Ordered a salad and sweet potato fries, and he ordered the pot roast. I let them know my allergies, but I ate my salad, which contained my allergy. Didn’t realize it because it said avocado on the menu, but they put guacamole instead. Thank God I don’t have a life-threatening allergy and just get hives. The manager came out, apologized, and tried to make it right, which I appreciated him asking if they needed to call someone. The waitress was accommodating. The night was good, so I tried not to let it ruin our night .

I live locally. Couple towns over and have been becoming increasingly aggravated with the size regression of grinders in all the local grinder purveyors. A friend suggested Marlborough Tavern and I was pleased to say the least. Take out order. Fast and friendly start to finish out the door in 5 minutes. Good amount of meat. Bread was great. I’ll be back!!!

September 2024 – Historic tavern built around 1740 by the Buell family. At that time, its location was known as the “Governor’s Highway” since it ran through an important vein of the state of Connecticut, from New London to Hartford. Revolutionary War soldiers gathered here to put down their muskets and have a pint of ale to cheer their triumphs over the British. Even President Andrew Jackson stopped in once. The tavern was sold under original ownership in 1868 but is now running again.

Today, my friends who brought me here after the Renaissance Faire, said it is one of their favorite places to dine and wished they could live closer to come more often.

Relaxing but engaging atmosphere. We had a nice meal which included a Guinness pot roast, a pan roasted Atlantic Salmon on risotto, and an evening special of a ragu over ravioli. Our starter was the house Buffalo chicken eggrolls which were really delicious.

The pot roast was described as tender and really flavorful. Our bartender and wait staff said she thought it was the best choice of the three. The ravioli was enjoyed but too filling to finish. For me, the only negative to say here is the salmon was a very small portion. I order salmon a lot and always have some to bring home. The bartender was knowledgeable and suggested I try her autumn gin drink with added spices. It was good but I moved on to a French Martini after that cocktail. Our beer enthusiast enjoyed his Headway by Counter Weight IPA. Marlborough Tavern has a large selection on tap. Overall, it was a nice experience and do recommend it to diners.

Ordered the Taco Bowl Salad. They forgot the guac & beans, Flatbread Pizza was so so. The only thing that was good was the tacos.
Service was the worst!! After our meal came, never was asked if everything was ok or if we wanted more drinks. Wasn’t very busy. Trivia night was fun.
