Stumbled across this place finding lunch around Portobello market and couldn’t have been happier. Set menu lunch was a great price for the amount of food, the staff were lovely and checking in. I asked the owner what she was making in the bar area as it smelt great and she offered me a portion for free to try. Thanks very much for a great lunch time, we will tell our friends!

A True Gem for Thai Food Lovers – Since 1998!

We had a fantastic lunch at The Market Thai, a beloved spot serving authentic Thai cuisine since 1998! The flavours were absolutely spot-on, and. Everything from the spicy and tangy papaya salad to the creamy red curry and fragrant Pad Thai was delicious. The mango sticky rice was the perfect sweet finish, beautifully presented and full of coconut richness.

The ambience inside is warm and inviting, with traditional Thai decor and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger. The staff were genuinely kind and attentive, adding to the overall great experience.

A small thing to note: the entrance is a bit tight, as it’s nestled between a bar and some café chairs on the pavement, which is something to be aware of, especially during busy times. But once you step in, you’re greeted by a genuinely welcoming and flavorful experience that’s well worth it.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking real Thai food in London with a cosy, well-established charm!

I found this place on a stopover in London. It is a wonderful, delicious, family run Thai restaurant. I had the vegetarian green curry, green papaya salad and Thai ice tea with lemon. Each of these was fabulous. The service was kind and I felt part of the family.
I would highly recommend and will be back!

The place felt like a shady establishment. It was located on the first floor with no visible signage. The owner let us in discreetly, as if they weren’t actually allowed to be operating. It felt like a house that had been tackily repurposed into a makeshift restaurant.

Our server was careless, bringing out our noodles with his thumb dipped slightly into the bowl. It was disgusting. When we asked about our other items, he simply said, “I don’t know, I don’t work here,” which felt rude. I can understand his POV, but I wanted to ask the owner why they are forcing their friends to work for them if they aren’t interested as it completely ruins the customer experience.

When it came time to pay, the owner made a calculation mistake. It felt deliberate, especially since she didn’t hesitate to agree with me the moment I confronted her. The bill was handwritten, and we were charged a ridiculous extra fee for paying by card. I understand that people do what they must to make ends meet, but the sly “mistakes,” the hidden fees, and the unhygienic service really ruined our day.

The food here is very good. We ordered pad thai, spring rolls, and roasted duck breast and I recommend all of them. The service was good too! An easy spot to get a good meal without having to wait too long.

Went for a 10/10 Thai lunch just off Portobello Road. This beautiful restaurant is tucked away at the top of some stairs – a proper hidden gem. The interior is lovely and the staff were all great.

Between us, we had fried duck, panang curry, pad thai, green curry, spring rolls, dumplings, satay chicken, and Thai fish cakes – and everything was genuinely amazing.

Six of us had starters, mains, and alcoholic drinks, and it came to just £30 each-such good value. They also do a £17.90 lunch deal, which is worth checking out. They even catered for a gluten free meal.

Would definitely go back!
